I had one of those Mattel single channel radios that I put in a swamp boat. It was intended for a .020 size engine, but I stuck a .049 on it. That thing would fly!

I flew a lot of C/L stuff back then. I really liked my old Ringmaster that ran real well with a .28 on it. I still have some C/L combat planes from the Corehouse that I need to get back in the air.

I had one of the electric planes with the plastic programming discs, too.

my brother had the Cox .020 Biplane (somewhere around 1970), it didn't even have enough power to get off the ground, I was real disappointed, cute little thing, I bet Cox made a lot of money off it

I forgot that I got a C/L Testors BD5 for Christmas one year. That thing weighed a ton and never got off the ground. I didn't have a nice paved circle handy, but if I did, I probably could have got enough speed up for actual flight ... after about 5 revolutions on the ground!

We tried hand launching, but that never works out well with a pusher prop plane.

I had the Cox Stuka CL. I had to build a plywood ramp to "jump" it into the air. It went up, over my head, and nose first into the ground. Used a soldering gun to melt the plastic wing back together. Flew a few more times. Way too heavy. Also had the Cox PT-19 Trainer. That one really flew great.Wolves don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep

PT-19 was my first. Then I figured out plastic was junk and started building my own.
That Red Baron brings back memories. My brother and I were snooping thru my dad's old Buick in the barn and found one in the trunk. Obviously intended as a gift for me when I had a short hospital stay. He forgot to give it to me...BUT, we found his huge stash of porn/swinger magazines, so it all balanced out.... until mom caught us with 'em....
"Your father is just storing them for his friends at work".....yeah right.

Those Red Barons flew pretty good, but the wheels always fell off. We used to do carrier landing on our picnic table. The PT-19s were great trainers, and pretty durable - for plastic. A 'Lil Satan with an .049 was a totally different animal.

The only things I miss from the 70s' was $0.35 gas, bar hopping, and all the neat dance clubs in Central Ohio.
I do not miss the Oil Embargo, some of the lame rock music, terrible inflation, recession, sky-high loan interest rates, and lame so- called "Muscle Cars".
