Bought the new shaft and gear for my 700DFC.(H70G005XX)

How do you remove and fit the new gear without damaging the metal tail torque tube unit(HN70053A) or bearings?

Tried to fit the umbrella gear to the tail torque tube unit, damaged the casing and bearings.

There is a known issue with the interference fit between the new black umbrella gear and the bearings that it rides in. Some have had success by just putting the umbrella gear in the freezer and heating up the bearings, but the ones I worked with didn't work just doing that.

I had to sand the od of the umbrella gear and put a chamfer on the end so that it could be pressed into the bearing without damaging it. There is a company (precision heli tools) that makes a neat mini press designed specifically to install and remove the bearings. It does work well for its intended application. It can remove and install the bearings as well as pull the old umbrella gear out of the tail housing.

If you can find a socket or section of pipe that can just fit over the umbrella gear you can use that to press the bearing in place. trick is to find something that will press on the inside bearing race, don't want any pressure on the outer bearing race.

I use this press http://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-...press-3552.html you can get them on sale for much less. If you don't have an arbor press you can also use a drill press (disclaimer: power off of course) to do the same thing. Use long sockets that fit over the shaft.
