Ok.. So for you Futaba tellme telemetry works on the cgy760?

Looks like the store is up, but purchasing a cgy760 is actual cheaper from Japan directly even with all the fees.

US tariff on Chinese mfg'd goods added about 25% to Futaba USA's landed cost. They couldn't absorb that. Japanese company, but the gyro is made in China.

If/when the tariff goes away, the price will go back down to originally intended prices.

Hi, I seem to be having the same problem with the ruder drift on the bench.
Did RCJ replace the unit, or USA?

Futaba USA can only service and warranty 760's purchased from an authorized US dealer.

Hmmm... This is not going well. The 750 appears to be on the way out, the 760 is $420 from the US importer, and $325 from Japan. But, Futaba won't warranty or service gyros from Japan. Although the 750 is not currently available in the US, it retailed for $230 in the US.

What should I think of this? How should I buy a Futaba FBL Gyro?

One word: tariff.

The price increase in the US is from the tariff on Chinese mfg'd goods and that alone. The importer can't eat that tax. When and if the tariff goes away, the price will go back down.

This is not going to apply to Futaba goods alone. It'll impact many aspects of the hobby. Nitro flyers are about to feel it very sorely. Lipo users will soon as well. And everyone else.

I need to make a correction to the US pricing of the 760 as I compared it to pricing direct from Japan in post #174. My intent was to quote the prices for just the CGY760 without the programmer from both the US and Japan. I supplied links to support the prices I quoted.

At this moment the price for just the CGY760 is listed as $420 on FutabaUSA and $325 from Japan. This is not explainable as tariffs.

The confusion is, at the time of this writing, the FuataUSA site lists the price for just the gyro and the price for the gyro/programmer combo as the same- $420. Almost certainly the CGY760 without the programmer will be less its price with the GBP1 programmer. I have to believe there is an error somewhere.

The combo was $470+ few days ago and just the unit was $420. Something is not right with the prices.

Agreed. I hope this is just growing pains for a new enterprise.

Because I like Futaba products, I hope they do well. But in order for them to succeed in the US, these tariffs need to hit other hobby products pretty quickly. I did a quick survey of some hobby items I've bought recently and there has been no price increase on quite a few of them. My last kit was an Align bought in January 2018. It is up from $830 to $909 (9.5%). With that exception, I haven't noticed any change in other products. The servos and gyros I've bought in the last 3 years remain unchanged in price. A quick scan of the TowerTalk I received a day or two ago reflect little change.

I suppose it will take time for import taxes to filter down to established products and distribution systems. This filtering to other products needs to happen quickly for FutabaUSA. As long as only Futaba products in the US reflect the new tariff and others do not, it will difficult to compete.

I suppose it is possible, or even likely, that pricing on the FutabaUSA website is set up to protect its dealers.
