hi, iv a TT 90, I did a general maintainance of my heli like cleaning etc last night. I took out the engine and cleaned it. When i today started it, there was burning smell and there were pure white sparks coming out of clutch bell. I opened the heli and checked engine alignment and it was fine. The clutch lining has worn to some extent but not completley. Is it the cause of the problem? Also my heli gave me a tough time in starting it.
Many thanks

Couple thoughts:

1. With heli off and motor installed, does the clutch spin freely? Yes=good.
2. With heli idling, does the cluth engage? No=good.
3. If none of the above, check the starter shaft, starter shaft bearings, and one-way in clutch.

Re:
I inspected the model fully, what i came to know was that I kept the main rotor blades gripped with a blade holder and wanted to start the heli engine in idle mode. And due to the engine head speed being too high, the clutch was rotating fast and gripped the clutch bell. But as the main blades are kept stationary, and clutch is revoving very fast inside the bell, smoke was coming out, probably due to the liner. My stick is at low but head speed is high.I double checked, my carb is fully closed at bottom stick.
I assume wrong needle settings for my heli. I have os max 91 hz engine. What settings shall i use?

Replace the clutch and the clutch liner, I would also consider replacing the bell, if it got hot, there may be a small fracture in it, therefore i personally would replace it.

There are no needle settings that will allow a stalled engine to burn off a clutch to the point of sparks flying off. What you have is a fully open carb when you believe you have a closed carb.
