Aren't those blades marketed to work with the 3G unit? If so, that unit is not in production anymore.

Hey.

Unfortunately Align have never come out with 520/550mm 3G main blades to suit the T550, which I find strange to.
Their range of 3G blades (3G meaning they suit flavorless in general) work very well.

Hopefully Align will make a dedicated 3G FBL main blade for the 550 class soon.

I haven't tried the Align 550 blades yet but I currently have some Rail 556s, Radix 554 V2s, SAB 550 Red Devils, NHP 550s, Edge 553s and Rotortech 550s. All of these blades fly awesome on my stretched 550. With a Beastx on there they all track extremely well through the air and have been similar in efficiency +/- a few hundred mah. The only real difference I have seen is some of them have a bit more 'pop' than others although it is not a night and day difference. If you have the room to run 550s you shouldn't worry about waiting for Align to release a 3g version, there are already tons of good options out there compared to a few years ago.

If it has a 600 boom you can run 600mm blades. If it has a 550 boom you can run 550 blades.

Mickey

PS Align now offers 520 and 550 3G blades. This is the new style blade. I've ran the 600mm new style 3G blades and the perform great.

Is this the Mickey J that an article about the 550 was written a year or two ago ? If so , please advise what you are running on your 550 ( blades, ESC, motor, fbl head, servo's FBL system, etc )

Thanks

Derek,

LOL, Yes I'm the same guy. I actually have two 550's now. My 550 is running 12S with 2 3300 packs and 600mm blades, the new Align 3G ones. One has a castle and the other kontronics (I like the Castle better running on Vbar gov.). I'm running the new align 615 servos, non DFC head and Vbar. As far as motors, I keep changing them up but the two motors are the Align 600MX 510kv and the Align 700MX 510kv (you'll need to cut the frames for the 700mx). Mod .08 auto rotation gear with 105 tail blades(then you need a 700 tail fin and space up your rear landing gear). The mod 08 gears are stronger than the mod 06 gears. This 550/600 came in 3/4 pound lighter than my 600 pro, some of that is due to 3600 packs compared to 3300 packs. With a 600 boom (which now comes stock) and 12S 3300 packs the heli CGs perfectly and the battery's fix under the canopy. I've been running both the straight 115 main gear and the slant 112 main gear. They both have their advantages.

The above changes all started because I wanted to switch to a 12S setup to get more cycles out of my packs. 550 blades on a 6s heli is harder on batteries than 12s. Then 12's 3300 packs were a bit to heavy for 550 blades which is why I changed to 600 blades. More power and bigger blades required stronger tail gears which explains the mod 06 to mod 08 change. At the end of the day I like the servo layout on the 550 frames compared to the 600 pro, plus the 550 layout is lighter. All of the above really happen as a snow ball affect.

All Align parts, just assembled differently.
Whats cool about the 550s is they are very diverse. 6's to 12's and 520 blades up to 600 blade, some assembly required.

Hope that wasn't to much info.

Mickey

Thanks Mickie
Not too much info, I'm not ready to go to 12S yet ......
Running the stock blue lettering servos, stock ESC and Castle BEC, but me thinks the ESC is making a scree'ing type noise, note quite a screech like my 500's Skorpion did as the top brg failed, noise goes away above 65% and also imeadiately goes away when I hit TH ?? I did try another 600 MX, but the noise was still there, so I changed brgs on the original motor ( Boca Abec 5's ) and that made no dif, so i doubt it's the motor, I might start pulling the gear train apart and looking for a sloppy brg...... TT has two brand new Abec 5 brg, frot bevel vertical gear has new brgs, so it could be an umbrella or the tr drive shaft ( gearbox )
I have a big I2 main rotor head, requires shimming for the blades, pushes rail 556's to a 51" rotor diameter, just installed Edge 520 fbl for now. I have the mod .8 gears, but i was going to go to the .6 to speed up the tail, since I'm not going to 600mm blades, I should be fine ?
I did reduce the pitch on the mains to 10 degrees as I was having tail issues at full collective ( from a hover) but I might have been running 85% throttle then, have since moved to 95%

If I think of anymore questions, I'll send a PM.
Thanks, Derek

The noise could be a bearing. You might want to grease or oil your one way, I've have the one ways make noise on my in the past.

Regarding the Mod 06 gears, it's hard to tell if they will hold up for you. I have a friend that beats the crap of of his 550 with the mod 06 gears and never had a problem.
