I intend to use the V-bar and I am also leaning towards the BLS257. My question comes from experience with 500 class machines and mini tail servos. I have never gotten good performance. I'm looking at a boom mounted servo so I can run a BLS252...

Blade3d, I think the standard location up front only allows the use of a mini servo. 9257 would be my choice as I went from a 9257 to a BLS257 and couldn't tell the difference in performance. A 9257 would last longer than the heli would in my hands so no need for the longer life of BLS servos.

60% of the time, it works every time!

You guys should try MKS DS8910a. Check out the spec of it. It is cheaper than BLS257, can take 6v and is faster and more powerful.

MKS DS8910a

Speed (4.8V): 0.052 sec/60degrees
Speed (6.0V): 0.040 sec/60degrees
Torque (4.8V): 29.16oz/in (2.1 kg-cm)
Torque (6.0V): 36.11 oz/in (2.6 kg-cm)

Futaba s9257

Speed: 0.08 sec/60degrees @ 4.8V
Torque: 23 oz-in @ 4.8V

Futaba BLS257

Torque:@ 4.8V: 36 oz-in (2.6 kg-cm)
Speed:@ 4.8V: 0.07 sec/60degrees

I used to have Futaba s9257 on my Trex500 and I always get tail blow out in inverted backward flight. After switching to MKS8910a, it flies like a charm. Now, I am using s9257 for my NX4 throttle servo.

The MKS doesn't seem like a bad get but I still would prefer a full size servo on the tail...

Hey Lou,

The Mini Tail servo works great on the NX4.

I am using the Savox 1257MG with BeastX.

With absolutely no issues thus far.
