1. I have a 450 and a 500 with 3gx. The 450 I had a guy setup for me but I setup the 500 myself. The guy said if the cyclic was to aggressive for learning flybarless, that I could lower the aileron and elevator settings in swash mix. I never set the cyclic on the 500 to 8 or 10 with a pitch gauge until today. Before I eyeballed it with the flat spot on the swash. It was at 21 degrees and flew good. Today I set it at +/-10 and the ail setting is 63. That seems a lot to me. Any thoughts?
2. The manual doesn't mention that I can see, but shouldn't the elevator and ail settings be the same numbers in swash mix? Thanks

Hey.

What firmware are you running on the 3GX? Reason being from V2 and above you need to set youre cyclic swashplate mix values to achieve 8 degrees cyclic when in DIR mode. Then you must not alter these again.
In the past you were able to raise or lower the swash mix values to increase or decrease flip/roll rate. But from V2 onwards this is no longer possible.

If you are running firmware V2+, or the newly released V3 then I would suggest going back through DIR mode, setting the required 8 degrees. Then to adjust the flip/roll rates do so using the PC software sliders, or via the 3GX itself using the light sequence.

Off the top of my head I think you set the aileron to 8 degrees, then copy it's swashplate mix value to the elevator also.

3Gx
Hi and thanks for the help. Well just now I got into the software and the version was 1.0 but I updated to 1.1. Then I set the cyclic to +-10 which put the swash mix at 62. It was set at 28 before so I'm thinking it'll be crazy response at first. Any advice on how to upgrade to the newer versions and should I even do this? Thanks

Morning buddy.

You're very welcome my friend, glad to help.

Oh it's on V1, now V1.1? Yes I would definetly upgrade to the newly released V3.
I was never a fan of V2 on the 3GX, but V2.1 is great and V3 is even better again it seems.

To upgrade all you will have to do is download the lastest V3 pc software from the Align website, install to your pc as normal, then connect up your 3GX and go to the upgrade tab and follow the instructions. You've done it once to get to V1.1 so you won't have a problem.
This one will require you setting 8 degrees cyclic while in DIR mode and adjusting your flip and roll rates using a pc or via the 3GX led light sequence.

If you get stuck I'll try and help as best I can.
I have some settings files which should still work well on V3 for you and will give you a more stable model from which to adjust to your own liking. Send me your email address if you'd like them and I'll flash them over to you.

Evening Larry.

Just sent you an email buddy with the settings files attached.
They are in .TXT format, but open up from within the Align PC application.

going flybarless
On mine I have a DFC head but a regular flybarless head works fine. I think DFC has more of a tendency to break servos in a crash. I'm using the 3Gx and liking it. I also just use regular CF blades. Like Align's etc. They work fine.

Hey Larry.

You're very welcome buddy, glad to help.

I'll just add thought that the addition of Align 3G main blades on a FBL model do make a noticeable difference to model stability in FFF. Especially on the 450 class machines where I found it to be less tolerant to lighter main blades.
