Gents,
Long long time ago I had a MA gasser. Carbon fiber, beautiful bird. Loved that heli. I sold it and life happened for about 10 or so years; Then I come across the Radikal G20 for an unbelieveable 199. I bit on it, ordered the kit, then ordered a motor. Been out of helis for a while, so I've got few questions..

1) I never used a governor on the MA gasser. Used a tach and throttle pitch curve adjustments. ya think its a must now or just a "nice to have"?

2) Way back when, my favorite radio was the JR783, then the Xp8103. Only radios I have now are a dx6i I use for bnf's and a 2.4 ghz, futaba 6ex. U think 6 channels is enough?

3) Lastly, I never used any of the electric ignition systems. It was all coil at that point. With the new dsmx, faast and such, is there still need to be leary of rf interference from the gas motor?

4) Last one, what are u using as a general rule of thumbs for a reciever pack; all these micros run through a bec off the esc, right off the lipo.. back in the day, it was whatever rx pack came with the radio you bought. any suggestions receiver pack wise?

Thanks a bunch. R/c has changed so much. its fascinating to me the amount of technology that has come into the hobby. Sorry but I just crawled out from a rock, and back into a hobby that I always enjoyed a lot. Thanks for any input.

well,

1.) Gov will allow for better flight performance, do you "need" it...no...but IMHO, I would not fly without it, some FBL systems have govs built in if thats the route you take.

2.)6 channels is bare "get off the ground" minimum...you need 7 if you plan on a gov with more than just one HS option.

3.) No, but its best to build it so that your CDI is as far away from your RX, the frame is set up that way anyway...

4.) guys are running everything under the sun when it comes to electrical power...two seperate batts, one for the RX, the other for the CDI, or 1 battery powering everything...it just depends on what you have on hand...some guys even run Generators mounted to the start shaft...

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

if the weight doesn't kill it being only 20cc, I'd like to run a Jewel... I plan on using it for a lot of FF stuff.

I have been wanting a gasser since I found out they existed back in 2006. I have been close several times but life seems to always get in the way. I drooled over the Spectra-G to the point you would have thought I was looking at a mens magazine. Then the Whiplash mmmm I love that heli with its Rc engined greatness. I have even had extensive private conversations with people who I consider to be gasser gurus Raja and excellgasman. I have almost pulled the trigger on both the Spectra back before there was a whipgas and the Whipgas but life stepped in the way.

WELL not anymore I am waiting on my 199 Radikal G20 as I type. No more waiting. All I need is an engine. I hit the buy button like a big truck with no brakes

ENGAGE!!

I've got most of my stuff now. Just trying to decide on an engine. I went to buy the HWC mod combo, but heli-world is out of stock for 45 days. I may just go with a stocker with a big carb (already ordered) and a better ignition and see how that goes for now.
But the Whippy is calling my name!!!!

Yes the WhipGas is calling my name and life still stands in the way of it but not forever. I will have one someday.

I am thinking of checking if TRM or Hanson mods the Zenoah 20 and for how much. If they want too much I will just wait for HW to get their mods back in stock. If I cant wait maybe a stocker.

cessnapilot3, Congrats on your Radikal and go for the gov if you decide to upgrade your radio to a 7 channel. The rx pack depends on how much flying time you are willing to give up for the performance but most people use 2500 mah or so rx packs. The ignition draws little current its similar to the servos maybe even a little less. I plan go the same suze on both packs.

ENGAGE!!

Hanson does a 20, TRM doesn't list one.
But Hanson is 5 bills and there's no pull start or a pipe (so figure 7 with a starter and a pipe). HWC gives you both, which makes it a pretty nice deal. Just seems wrong somehow when you can get a 270 RC all done up for LESS money.

he may have snagged the last one. Go to Heli-World.com and click on the Radizals. They had a batch for Black Friday and apparently whatever they set aside, they're still honoring that price. All versions are back to normal price but the last G-10/HD head versions. They were still showing that price for that version as of 2 days ago when I went to order my motor combo. Yeah, I couldn't pass it up.

I could have a heavily modified 700 dololar motor, and chassis for under a 1000.00 bucks right now.

As I will ask again. WTF am I misssing. Whats the comparence between lets say Century and MA for instanse here? Why are they blowing them out? Will this chassis accomidate the HWC/Zenoah G29E 3D EXTREME ENGINE?

Is this the FB version?

Ifso, Im sold

haha- nope, the box is sitting on my bench with all of the electronics whispering "build me Seymour".....
There's several guys here on R/R that snagged one. I'm gonna build mine and cut my tuning teeth on it while I buy and slow-build a Whippy is the plan. IF I can control myself that is.

nope the G20 fits only a 20cc engine...

shoving a G231 block or bigger into a G20 and you'll need to gut the whole frame or make a new one all together...then you just messed up the CG and made a really heavy G20 that looks like a G30.

you could get a modded G20...but so far the max thats available by what I can find power wise is like 20% more which is no more than 2.2 hp....

I managed to squeeze 3 hp from my 20cc with a V2 muffler...but it took a lot of modds to do it...worth it? Yes...expensive? I did my own work...anybody else do it? I have no idea...my guess is Wally, BH and TRM and other Zenoah modders will mod a 20 but at what cost and what end result is somthing you would have to figure out.

Which is why I'm building this first!!! I'm going to get a Whip, but I'll take my time with it while I learn the ins and outs of gassers.
And Bill, the whole "Century sucks" thing actually kinda sold me on it a bit. I love to build and tinker as much as I like to fly, so all the little quirks, while they may piss me off while I'm building it, will I think be more satisfactory in the end. At least that's what I've convinced myself of....

So Bill..you think Century should update thier manuals tools required section to include Lathe, Mill, welder, 1,026 piece mechanics tool set from sears, oscilloscope, laptop with internet connection and health insurance?...
