Help me recognize a scam on selling my bike..
I just put a add on craigslist for my 2003 goldwing..

here is what someone sent me.

just tell me what you guys think..

"Thanks for your mail, am just asking about it to make sure its in good
condition,so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? i have a
mover that will come for it.I'm satisfied with your firm/advert price,
As am requesting this transaction should be done via PayPal so the
PayPal charges is on me. Presently am out of town,so am sorry i will
not be able to come look at it in person and that's the only reason
why PayPal is the only payment option. I hope we can make the purchase
as fast as possible? kindly get back to me so that we can arrange for
pick up as i will like the item to be picked at your residence
location. But i want you to please answer this question
about it.

Are you the first owner?
Why are you selling it?
Your PayPal Email Address?
Your Picked Up Location Address:

With this i want you to please be sincere about it and also get back
to me with the paypal address for me to make the payment asap. I look
forward doing business with you.
kindly send me pictures

Regards"

If he wants to paypal you the money, what's the problem? Once you have the money, then proceed on with the transaction. I wouldn't give an address until you are paid, but send pics and press on.Trex 700E / Trex 500 ESP - Ikon/ HD 500 - Ikon 2/ Goblin 500 Ikon 2

SUPER SCAM!!!!
If he wants to paypal you the money, what's the problem?
The problem is that the scammer/buyer doesnt actually use paypal.

A simple google search will yield thousands upon thousands of similar scams.

This is what I sent back..

Please explain why I am talking to 2 email addresses? I am in no hurry to sell the bike. The paypal is fine with me but I will not sell it unless the purchaser is there to look at it.. I have the bike financed so I will give a bill of sale and mail the title with in 7 days.. I am selling it because I have had it for 2 years and only put 1000 miles on it.. Never gets rode..

I listed a bass boat on CL. I received over 100 BS emails. The best way I found was to demand their phone number and then look up the number to see if it's a real person or spam.Welcome my son, Welcome to the machine

Haha...so contrasting from my Craigslist experience. Last spring, I listed my older riding lawn tractor for sale. Pics after I washed it and cleaned it. Everything still worked and showed well. Stored inside so no faded paint or vinyl. Within minutes of pressing "continue", I had about (3) phone calls. The next day, the phone call messages continued until I had maybe (20) total calls. By about 11:00, a man said he'd bring me the cash wherever I was going to be, and arrange for delivery the next day or two. He met me at Subway as agreed and paid cash right there at my table. He gave me his business card to the restaurant he owned and operated and called me the next day to arrange delivery. He said he knew from my conversation he could trust me! Nice man, paid in full, happy with purchase. End of transaction!Rob

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/m...tion-learn-more

Snip from the midle of page linked.
When you are not covered:
Items are picked up locally or delivered in person.
•You sell services, intangible items, or digital goods.
•You receive multiple payments for the same item.
•You've received a claim or a chargeback, and the shipped item is found to be significantly different than it was described.
Example: You describe a new laptop, but send a used one.
•PayPal Direct Payments
•Virtual Terminal Payments
•PayPal Business Payments
•Items that are not shipped to the recipient shipping address on the transaction details page. If you originally ship the item to the shipping address but the item is later redirected to a different address, you will not be eligible for PayPal Seller protection. We therefore recommend not using a shipping service that is arranged by the buyer, so that you will be able to provide valid proof of shipping and delivery.

to shed some light
here is how the whole scam works.

X send you an email requesting about the item, usually
offering even more to be more alluring,
you fall for it and give him your paypal address and he makes a payment
over paypal to your account but X doesn't have a credit card or check card attached as funds backup on his/hers paypal account, only checking account, which you can have.

so you receive the "payment", you send the item, item is already in mail when in couple days paypal hits X's empty checking account but instead of going after X they will put hold on your funds also until
the situation is resolved.
Of course it never gets resolved, you are already out of item because
it is in mail and by now probably delivered.

X walks away with the item and no penalty or anything because when X opened, now negative, checking account it was probably opened with a
immigration paperwork, so there is no SSN involved hence no damage to
the Mr.X!

nice huh?
