I see several statements like "the heli was a POS,I threw every upgrade avail at it and it still never flew"

I guess JOHN and PAUL were right almost 50 years ago... MONEY CAN'T BUY ME LOVE.

I am curious though, now that many of us are way better at set up and have more experience, how would those first helis have flown,if you had the set up knowledge you/I have NOW,hhhmmm?

Well my POS Walkera 4G6 was not my first heli,,not even close. By that time I had already owned two nitros my first Min Air gasser a shogun,Blade CP all with success.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

I bought a used nano CP to fly around the yard ,over the winter when it's too crappy out to take the big stuff out.I think I gave it three or four flights and handed it over to my four year with a small Phillips screw driver and said " have at it"
He likes to take things apart.

HK 600 GT
Tail wobbles on the boom, main shaft not concentric with step down part, tail belt pulleys are too shallow and don't grip the tail belt, one bearing in the tail was already making grinding noises right out of the box, ball links are too small for a 600 size heli, bolt holes in chassis don't line up correctly and that's just what I can remember from trying to put it together. Finally gave up. Waste of money.

Let's bring back survival of the fitest.

while i wasnt very lucky with hornets i dont regret buying them. it was total elation when it flew, i crashed too much tho due to lack of skills and after each crash followed the the endless hours of tinkering to get her to fly properly again.

the only heli i really regret buying was the Stinger 6... never flew more than 3 min.. oh well i still have it on my attic waiting for a big enough enemy to give asa present :-)

I bought the Blade CP when it first came out (2005 ?) - at the time I couldn't beleive I was getting an eCCPM RTF heli for under $250 with the radio. If you go back to that time when people were dumping large money into Shoguns and Picollo's (and all the knock offs) it was a really good deal. Really, for what it was it flew pretty well, once someone figured out the sticking collective issue and I bought a lipo for it, they really did get better. I even had a couple of inverted flights, though that was tough with this machine. It was way better than the GWS dragonfly I had before it.

I owned a Shogun long enough to realize it was going to be a money pit.

and back in the mid '90's my brother-inlaw bought a Kalt Enforcer ZR. It would have been a good flying machine but for two issues. 1. It was really easy to boom strike if you set it down too hard. That issue got him and me out of heli's and me for at least 5 years. 2. the ball links were too tight which combined with the cheap servos caused the heli to drift around, constantly chasing it, leading to lots of issue#1. If we had known what we were doing or had some help it would have been a lot more successful.

Name one heli you regret buying!
That, like many other newbe's, would be my first Heli. Century Hawk30. To be honest, it wasn't that bad. Tail was real sloppy but for a $199 heli, what the hay. The cheap gyro's back then would pop out of head hold and back to the parts store i would be. The only good Gyro out at the time that made heli's worth flying to me was the JR5000. Century Hawk $199. JR5000/8700servo $500

Thank Goodness for futaba's 401 soon to follow.

+1 on "my first heli." Yes, I totally regret buying my first one since it cost me about ten more helis!

Incidentally, my first one was a Kyosho Concept 30. Almost everything about it did not work right. Still I got it up in the air and totally learned how to hover on that baby! Every weekend something would break, and not because of a crash!

I even had a Quick 60 that was unimpressive to say the least but I learned a lot from it so it served a purpose.
