Agusta 109 nitro converted to electric!!!
This one was nitro for about three yrs and it has never flown to my liking but I hung on to it and finally the other day I decided to see if I could convert it to electric and not spend alot of money. This is my first ever converted nitro to electric conversion too. Found a used Phoeonixtech 100a ESC for ($40), used 6S 4000Mah Turnigy Battery ($30), Century electric conversion motor mount ($40), used ZPower-50A 780kv brushless motor ($40) and a ($3) GP 5mm prop adapter so I could keep the stock clutch but I did change out the stock clutch bell with a 10 tooth pinion to the Evo .30 clutch bell with a 9 tooth pinion, so for about $150-$175 this now flies awesome. It always flew good on nitro but I could never get the OS .50 Hyper just right. This was so easy and it was a drop in fit, only thing I had to do was drill four new holes for the motor mount other than that no modifications needed. I'm using the stock clutch but with a Evo 30 clutch bell with a 9 tooth pinion and a 5mm 1/4-28 prop adapter and I'm up to a 4 minute flight right now with everything just warm and putting back around 2500mah in the battery so I think I can get 5 minutes but I'm going slow. Head speed is high but its always liked a high head speed even on nitro, most fuselages don't but this one flies best at 1500-1700 rpm... I do have a Scorpion 630KV motor coming that I might try, but I hate to mess with it, its flying so good.

Several flights now with no issues and the start up is very turbine like...

Century Agusta 109 fuselage
Hirobo Evo mechanics
Futaba 617 rx
PheonixTech ESC (Didn't use the BEC)
Z-Power 50A 780KV motor
Hitec servos
Fut. 401/9254
JR 4500 NiMH Battery for electronics
Mah 600 Blades
Align 85mm Tail blades

I have a few of questions.
What gear ratio is it at now and what was it?
Where did you get the Z-Power 50A 780KV motor?
Did you have to use the said prop adapter because of the smaller clutch?

Rob..

Thanks guys
I was surprised when everything fit so perfect on the first try. I'm not bragging by no means because my thought was to use this as test bed so I just kind of slapped it together and was rewarded with a very turbine like whine on start up, even so much that my wife took notice and she was with me on the first test flight and now has talked me into keeping it and when your wife likes it then you keep it......

Now get this, its no big power house, its heavy and and flies like it too as it did on nitro but its every bit as fast. This is one of those that you have to plan your approach and flare or you will find yourself in trouble and dropping like a rock. I'm sure you electric guys with way more experience can fix the power issues, lower the KV and go to 8S would help I'm sure?? But this was cheap and easy so I might leave it for awhile.

Stock ratio is 87 main/10t pinion = 8.7000
I used the 87 main/9t = 9.6667 pinion with clutch bell for the .30 Evo with no issues so far, same clutch bell fits both .50-.30 same diameter pinion but one less tooth, I think a person can keep the stock 10t clutch bell and just lower the KV. Only problem I see if you lower the KV is if the motor is too fat it won't fit the motor mount, I have a Scorpion 630 coming to see if it will fit the mount but I already know its 25mm mounting and the Century mount is drilled for 30mm so if I change it I will slot the holes.

5mm prop adapter fits the fan or flywheel mount so it has nothing to do with the clutch or bell.

Is it okay to post the links or is it against the rr rules???

Didn't the Century conversion kit come with a prop adapter?
You can always PM me the link.
Thanks for the info. I don't have a 30 clutch bell for my Evo so I would have to go with the standard gearing. I have converted Hawk and Lama. One with 4s and the other 5S setup now I want to try a 6s setup.
