Share your sim moments!
I'm surprised there isn't a topic about this already.
So I'll just have to make one!

We all love and/or hate the sim.
And I'm pretty sure that after a while most people get bored of the standard everything-by-the-book stuff and just go crazy.
I know I do.
And usually interesting things start happening.
Specifically now that the winter is arriving I think the sim hours for most is gonna go way up and more stuff is going to happen.

So why not take advantage of it?

In here we can post our funny/crazy/educational etc. sim moments.

Did you pull off a full 12 point chaos? Post it!
Did you stomp on another heli in multiplayer while laughing like a maniac? Post it!
Did you manage to land inverted without pieces flying everywhere? Post it!
Did you break the physics engine? you got it.. Post it!

Lets try and keep them under 6 minutes (standard flight time ish) if doing tutorial videos.

Any questions about recording/rendering, just ask.

I'll go first then.

I like playing with the "True To Life" physics. Can you do this with your helicopter?

Watch at YouTube

When I get bored with that, I like landing helicopters on the sides of buildings.

When I get bored landing on the sides of buildings, I fly the blimp.

When I get bored of flying the blimp, I go back to scraping the nose of the helicopter on the pavement with those sweet "True To Life" physics.

It's a vicious cycle.

No, because at that attitude the rotor disk would be in the dirt.

But I do like "walking" the helicopter on the skids, a move that Jason Krause made famous 4 or 5 years ago.

I won't try it with a flybarless machine.

Here's Jason Krause "Walking the Dog"

You know I tried that afterwards.
If you look at my playback bar you see this is actually the first attempt.

The rest of it I tried sticking it back to the wall in hopes that I could get it off in one piece but that turned out to be harder than I thought.

Sticking to the wall in Real Flight is easy. Getting it off the wall is even easier. Collective, then cyclic. -- in that order.  ▲

Thats what I thought.
Those true to life physics is far from it.
Maybe in the air but on the ground its another story..
Blades bouncing like the worlds most powerful bouncy ball.
Half the rotordisc in the ground? sure why not, keep on flying.
Did you hit the ground a tad to hard? well lets just fling out every part on the heli.

But its alright I guess.

Aerodynamics and more
Hi, maybe you are interested in these videos. They are part from a series about aerodynamics and helicopter technology together with the magazine rc-heli-action. The examples are made with the simulator HELI-X:
