Carters second term
It looks like Carter's second term will get to have history as a judge.

I've been reading the threads in here and have yet to see anyone (from the left at least) explain how this administration's policies will help the economy in the long run. 1-2% growth and a declining dollar negate any meaningful recovery. Servicing an ever increasing amount of debt will eventually consume any chance of moving our economy back onto a solid footing. It seems as if we're cheering that we'll just tread water (and look good doing it) only to be dragged down by our wet clothes. Is this the plan?

We have a president that half the electorate is proud to have as their leader. They're so proud that they're willing to accept no plan to tackle any of the real issues that face our future. Debt, deficit, health care, social security. How many times did Obama mention those in the debates? And no, promising to reduce the deficit doesn't count when you promised that the first time around and failed miserably in doing that.

20+ trillion in debt by 2016ish? You can't keep interest rates down to service an ever increasing amount of debt forever. When the rates rise the cost will explode to unmanageable levels. What happens to the social programs then? Wouldn't it behove us to solve these problems now and accept short term pain for long term gain or is the electorate not capable of rational thought?

I look forward to this administration's answer to this, with bated breath. What will Obama's adoring crowds look like 10-15 years from now when these social programs WILL be cut back? Will it be easier then to swallow the reality or better now to do it?
