First flights in color!
Put some colors on the StayseeIII. Much easier to see than gelcoat Which is a good thing, because it is FAST!

Still need to make some adjustments for better battery access, but it looks the part.

Decals and a little vinyl next...

Looks great Daniel. I like your flying field. That scruffy stuff on your face...not so much. I used to grow those things to before everything turned gray. How is the model flying with the body on it? Are you having any trimming or mixer issues upstairs? Give me a call if you want to talk about anything it's doing or not doing.

Hi Daniel,

That's looking really good, have you done any other modifications to the Rave other than what you have already covered? I finally pick mine up tomorrow all being well.

Regards

Ian

Hi Wayne, Daniel,

I've never had a fuselage before, is there anything in particular I would need to change with my setup once the fuselage is fitted?

Here's mine!
Not meaning to hijack Daniel's thread... But, I test flew mine last Saturday. Too soon to be completely sure, but didn't have any major trim issues. It was big time windy here so not sure about how well it hovers yet, but it's wicked fast and sounds angry at 1950 rpm. Sorry, didn't get any flying pics, but here's what I got. It definitely needs the LG like Daniel has on his...

Regards,
Cliff

Hi Ian,

Yes, a lot will change with the addition of the fuse. Mainly the fuse will cause the model to hover like absolute crap in windy conditions and the model will be a lot faster upstairs, which takes a long time and a lot of practice to get used to. Also the fuse is about your worst nightmare upstairs in heavy crosswinds. That is why I always took a pod and boom with me to World Championships to use if the weather looked to be really windy.

Your mixers for horizontal rolls will be different and you will notice that you see a lot more mistakes in your hovering as the fuse is much more visable and highlights anything you do wrong.

That pretty much covers the depressing stuff. On the plus side they fly much better in nice conditions and they are beautiful.

I hope this didn't depress you too much.

Hey Cliff,

Looks great. I didn't know that you were fitting one to your machine as well. That is a good thing for Daniel as you have experience with bodies. I am going to try to make it to the Huntsville contest to help with some coaching if my work schedule allows. I may try to sneak the airplane up there. I have started working on it.

Daniel and Cliff,

I will be curious to hear what the fore and aft trim is like on the model upstairs with the redesigned Staysee. That body has openings in the top of the nose. The older Staysees I have have a lot of cooling holes in the nose/windshield area to help keep my long forgotten YS engines cool at higher altitudes with hot dry air. Those holes also provided a lot of friction on the front of the model to keep the model in a "neutral" trim state with a level swash plate. If I put tape over those colling holes the model requires a ton of forward cyclic in fast forward flight to keep the thing from trying to do loops on it's own. You can play with some masking tape over those holes to see the effect it has on cyclic trim.

I hope this helps.

It's close...
Wayne...
Only have three flights on mine, it wants to dive just a touch in FFF with level swash, rolls are on a string with no mixers. Hover hints at wanting a longer flybar which might change FFF trim (should fix the dive if my memory is correct), shorter LG may have an affect too.

By all means, you need to come to HSV. I'll have the Bootlegger there and Steve will fly it.

Cliff

Wayne and Cliff,

Thanks for your replies. It would be good to hear how you find it Cliff once you have more flights. I am hoping to start fitting mine over the next couple of weeks.

Regards

Ian
