I was flying the X50 today and did an inverted piroetting climb out and my tail let go, lost control and crashed hard, extensive damage. Got looking at the aftermath and the reason the tail let go is because the tail rod was defective, it sheared in half in flight, i know this because there is no damage anywhere around the break and got looking closer and where the break is, only half of it was shiny like it was allready cracked half way through. I dont mind crashing if its my fault, but it really makes me mad when its a defective part.

Witnessed.

True story. Brand new bird, didn't even have any full flights on it yet. Almost certainly had a previous defect in the control wire as you could see oxidation on the metal in the separation about half way through, then the other half of the break is shiny new metal. There was not a boom strike in the crash or anything that even hit the tail, yet there it sits with its wire separated. It didn't happen by the connector (the usual story on this type of TT failure) it was about half way between the connector and the tail output.

Sadly, extensive damage :-(
