I've owned my Trex 500 three years now, and just love to fly it. The one thing that I've seen a lot in this forum is that the 500L motor did have some bearing problems. I have mine on a 6S battery, and although I don't fly 3D, I do fly it hard. When hovering it lately, I hear a squealing noise coming from the drivetrain area, but I suppose it could just be gear mesh noise. What do I need to check in order to determine if the bearings are headed south, or should I just change them out this winter and be safe. I have seen the video on bearing change, and it doesn't look to hard. How long do you guys run your motors before worrying about this.
Thanks
Don

Always error on the side of safety. Change them out as well as any of the other usual suspects. Slant gearing can put extra stress on motor bearings if not properly compensated for thrust loading. Cheers, Waco

I'm surprised you've made it 3 years on the L. I could barely get 60 flights on a 500M. Might want to consider an upgrade to the 500MX. You will see a BIG improvement on power. It is smoother too.

The bearing replacement is not difficult though. The best way to check the motor for bearings is to back it away from the main gear and spool it up. It should squeel on you. Also, another sign of bad motor bearings are vibes through the heli making it difficult to keep the tail solid when in flight.

Crikey, how did THAT happen? I've got that particular motor in my ESP T-Rex 500 3G. Should I be worried?
