using Mr.Mel cal for my Goblin 630 with the stock gear ration the lowest point to go in TX's trotle curve is 55 for 2100HS according to the calculator but i lowered the trotle curve to 50 which is around 1900HS is there a problem doing this? don't want the esc shutting down on me.

Jive has good active freewheeling so it should not be much problem, as long as you do not rise the pitch too much.

Why is a partial throttle setting so difficult for an ESC?

Ive used ALL ESC's on the market.. The Jive.. Oh My Gosh.. the easiest.. the most intuitive ESC on the market.. I would say that the ESC Governor is ALMOST equal with my phase sensor Vbar governor...

Jive is THAT good.. It is HEAPS better than ANYTHING out there in terms of set up, flexibility, BEC (without having to use ANOTHER BEC like CC)...

It is THAT remarkable..

Id rather pay a little more for the Jive than deal with other ESC's that require this, that.. Very clean set up very easy.

Plug and Play.

Period.

Just my opinion of course

Justin.. Partial Throttle on Krontronik is NO ISSUE.. It does VERY WELL on that.

FWIW

^^^ I agree with everything you said about Kontronik. It is a top notch piece for any heli.

The only downside is there is no pretty lightshow.

Justin,

Anytime an ESC is forced to run a partial throttle, the FET's are opening and closing at a rapid rate. When the current demands on the system when it is run at partially throttle are not large, we do not see excessive heat build up and decrease in product longevity due to FET failure. FAI pilots are thus able to run their ESC's in hover at less than 40% throttle will no ill effects. Kontronik products are especially tolerant of this. The problems occur when you run an ESC at noticeably reduced throttle settings while applying heavy loads. While it is true the system has a large amount of headroom and is quite powerful, it is very hard on the FETs as they open and close against wicked current spikes. At the very least, these set ups are inefficient. In worse cases, you can kill the ESC by forcing it to run at partial throttle settings under high load, especially when cooling is inadequate and the current peaks are consistently exceeding the rating of the ESC. For these reasons we suggest setting up ESC's to run in ranges up to or just approaching the 90% pwm range. The higher the quality of the battery packs, the better voltage is maintained under load and the less headroom required to maintain headspeed across a given flight time. Thus the model can be geared to run at a higher throttle percentage for a chosen headspeed.

Of all ESC's on the market.. Kontronik is the MOST tolerant of partial throttle...

It has been tested and proven.. For some reason, it just works.

A month ago my Jive 120HV completely died on me and I suspect it was because I was running my throttle curve at 43%.

Where do we send in a Jive for repair? I have tried ready heli 3 times and no luck. Does any one have an address?

I have a 3D heli, I don't understand why it doesn't do 3D

Goto Kontroniks site and download the repair form. RH told me that Kontroniks won't even touch a Jive that is out of warranty. I now use YGE.

I don't make this SH*T up.

From ReadyHeli
also kontronik only has a one year warranty and anything after, they wont touch. They may offer you a discount on a new unit and that would be about all they can do if in deed its out of warranty.
Brett
Kontronik does not repair theyer ESC's that are out of warranty. They can reapir the Kosmik line because its not mold injected like the one you have. We would hate to lose a customer over something we have no control over. If you can provide me an invoice or proof of ownership I may be able to give you a discount on a new unit.
Tell me, How would you like to proceed.
Brett
I just emailed Mike, let see if I get results.

It's injection molded, how do you "service" a product that is injection molded, cut it in half then re-injection mold it?

Kontronik will not service the jive because there isn't a way to take it apart without destroying it...
