I ran 12S 3300's on a Align 550, plenty of power thats for sure and it was stretched to 600's and with a flybar and there was no bog on a 4025 motor. BTW, check my classifieds, I am selling a never used Quantum 4125 that on 10S or 12S and at 3000watt rating will give you approx 4hp. Can you say hold on for dear life on 550's or 600's lol.

I think my "Bastard" 550 will stay 6s with an upgraded Scorpion 1350 motor... (It does fly nicely on the AR7200BX) but why stretch to 600 if the 700 DFC HV is the absolute on 12s? The 700e's at IRCHA were killing the 1.05/1.20 700 nitro's..

Ya, a 700 electric is unbelievable. My friend has a Goblin with a Scorpion 4530 Ultimate on his Goblin and the power on tap is unimaginable to me, that heli doesn't have 'bog' in its vocabulary haha.

I stretched mine because I already had a lot of 550 blades from my Logo I also wanted to run 95mm tail blades without any worries about chipping the blades.

The 700E is definately king. On a "test" flight last weekend with a new heli, my buddy pulled 4400 watts on a Synergy E7 that was only running 2000 headspeed. Definately an awesome heli. GScott's 600 pulled 4600 watts at our field when we checked it, but he was also flying 2400rpms and pushing the heli around pretty hard. I am sure that E7 and many other 700 electrics could pull 5000 watts and more.

I do really like how the 550 flies. The Scorpion might do the trick for you. My headspeed drops off pretty quick so I am around 2300 by the end of my flight using the stock 12t pinion (helical gears). That scorpion should put you in the right ballpark. When the headspeed is up, the 550 is a fun heli to fly

My 600 was only running 2300

Going with a higher KV motor will actually give you worse perfomance. You will get more torque from a lower KV. If you want a ballistic 550 then go 12s with 2700 packs. The Quantum 4125-560 is a monster in a 550. I set one up for a friend and could not believe the power it had.

It won't have ballistic power with a 4020 scorpion motor, you want a 4025, or the Align 600MX 1220kv.

I noticed from your graph you are pretty much hitting 100% throttle constantly which suggests inadequate overhead for the governor. Have you tried a bigger pinion and crank the HS upto around 2600?

Are you running 520's or 550's?

60% of the time, it works every time!

I'm running the stock 600mx on a 17t. I'm also flying the stock Align 520s..

Can the Align motor take the 18t and survive?

Yes no problem as long as it's not getting too hot.

I just finished building a new 550E DFC kit. These new ones come with 600 size tailboom already, and the new tail pitch assembly like the 700's. The frame is 2mm thick, but retains the same design. So I'd think you can slap on some longer blades and go 8s-12s if you wanted.

Oh yeah they also come standard with the new Castle Talon 90 ESC, new 615/655 servos, and an updated motor. Plus a much prettier canopy.

steph280 - let us know what battery you have to use to get the cg right with that 600 boom. I've found about 900 gms works with the 1.6mm frame and long boom. Please let us know when you get to that point. Thanks!

Steph.. She's a beaut! I think I see some frame flex on my older 550... The frames would be nice.. I'm starting to like her... Very stable and I love the AR7200BX.. The 18t on order will decide the issue.. I still am looking at a 700 DFC HV and maybe keeping this 550 at 6s.. The thing is every heli I have is overpowered.. 6s 450 8s 500 1.05 700 nitro..

I'll post the 6s graph from this weekend in a few..

Question
Are you running set end points or governor mode? Also is the 17t stock in your kit? I have the same issue in my kit but I'm on the 112 main heat with an 11t on the pinion, moving up to a 12t got me to 2490rpm, more performance but higher amp spikes to 160 and temps were a bit higher....
