I have a Raptor 90 SE, with Futaba GY611 gyro. The motor is a YS 61ST.

It is exhibiting a slight tail kick (ie tail bumps sideways) every 1-2 seconds.

I've replaced everything in the rotor head and grips. Replaced all tail blade bearings. Replaced the one way bearing.

Replaced the S9256 servo and moved it to the forward location.

Have also tried changing the gyro gain; increased and decreased.

No change in the kick.

Anyone have any ideas?

Seems like soft tail wagging to me. Either engine's rich and/or tail gyro needs rate setup first and then turn AVCS on.

Is it a new set up or was it ok before and started doing this recently. Check the mounting tape for your gyro. Adhesive does not like nitro fuel and goes soft after a while causing erratic operation of the gyro.

You may want to move it from the gasser section to the TT section, for better responses.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.

More information and questions as follows:

a. If the gyro is going bad, is ther a way to trouble shoot this? Is it common to have a gyro go bad?

b. We've tried leaning, but no improvment.

c. It is like a small "wag" ever 1-2 seconds. I did not set up the rate mode in the gyro. What's the reason that needs to be done first?

d. The kick was alwyas there, but it seems to be getting worse. We did replace the Gyro tape (twice) with no real improvement.

e. Whats the TT section of Run Ryder?

a) While it can happen that a gyro goes bad, it is usually another issue, typically mechanically related

c) Rate mode - set gyro to rate mode and adjust tail pitch so the tail holds steady. This properly sets the mechanics to work wit the gyro, not fight it. Then you can flip to head holding.

d) Look for a bad bearing, bent shaft, clutch, etc.

e) TT is Thunder Tiger/Raptors.
Gassers are powered by gasoline, not nitro
