I just rebuilt some servos and did not have any lithium grease so I used tri flow red grease. Is that ok?

Most likely a bad choice of lubricant.

I looked up the Tri Flow Red Grease MSDS on line, it says it's a combination of Propane, Butane, and Paraffin Oil. The first two most likely are propellants and evaporate, leaving the Paraffin Oil behind. Looking up Paraffin Oil shows that is a fancy name for Kerosene. None of that sounds healthy for plastic, nylon, or other synthetic materials used in gears and servo cases.

I use this stuff:

third page of the catalog, MFG number 21030, for all sorts of heli-related uses. The compatibility chart on the SuperLube site shows this to be compatible with all sorts of plastics.

Go to Wal-Mart and look for reel grease in the fishing section. Perfect for servos and in a handy squeeze applicator

Should look similar to the center container in this pic.

I personally try to avoid any PTFE based grease in any application near ball bearings as would potentially be the case with a single or double BB servo. Teflon is effectively like sand when it gets into a BB. Ron Lund found this out the hard way years ago when he initially recommended a particular PTFE based Greaser for use alongside the greaser and quickly ruined bearings in the process. I distinctly recall the post on his website where he had to do a Mea culpa and change the suggested grease for that purpose.

Here is one option: http://www.ronlund.com/rcheli-prod/HRC58450.html

Ron also has the Hitec servo grease that is the stuff originally in most servos.

Get the Hitec grease from Ron's. It's a very small container but how much of the stuff can you really need anyhow? This is what I use so I don't have to wonder if my lubrication effort is actually eating my plastic gears.
