I would like to hear from those who have tried various motors and the pros and cons of each.

Also how well the pinion fits and pinion support with each motor.

I initially had an Xera 470 kV in mine which ran extremely well. Pinion fit was tight on the shaft. I have since switched to a Kontronik Pyro 450 which runs something akin to a Rolex. Pinion fit was perfect on the shaft.

I'll have pics up in a few days. I am currently installing a Kosmik in the model.

I'm running an Align 750MX. Great motor, plenty of power, pinion fits fine.

I have to agree. the 4525-520 UL and masterpiece is a badass motor! no need to run over 2100HS on any heli as the torque is just insane!!! only down side is 3 1/2-4min flight times depending on how hard you fly.

Only Hacker Turnado's here. The stock shaft is a touch short to get full engagement in the support bearing, but they have a long shaft available also.
Initially used the Hacker 470KV turnado. Was too high KV for my liking. I like lower revs and long flights for "geriatric style" smooth 3D. I like to optimize efficiency of everything for my style so as not to waste energy and get short flights.Currently using Hacker 400KV turnado's, with timing at 20 degree advance (so they're really about 440~450KV), 12 tooth, 12S/5000 and three headspeeds, 1180/1600/1850. Timer is at 9 minutes and I fly a mix of the various rpms, usually have 20~30% of the pack left, even though I fly a minute or so past the timer on most flights. Flying the entire flight in each mode I can safely go 7.5 minutes at 1850, 10 minutes and 1600 and 16 minutes at 1180.
If you want to fly smack and imitate an angry hornet, I'd go with the 470KV, or one of those big block powerhouses that spit electrons out every orifice while getting smoking hot and delivering 3 minute flights <G>.

Is the Scorpion HK4525-520 ultimate stock shaft long enough to make full contact with the support bearing?

Also is there a lower Kv version. 520 does seam to be a bit high for sport flying.

Last generation X-era long shaft motors fit fine and oh BTW Scorpion shafts retrofit them fine if you have a short shaft version.

Kontronik L series motors fit fine.

And as Steve noted, the current Scorpions have plenty of shaft length.

520 Kv is admittedly a powerful set up even with the 11t pinion, but your runtimes will not suffer too much with a conservative headspeed much unless you lean on the pitch.
