I have been thinking of ordering the 50 size Apache from Approach Engineering and I was wondering if anyone makes a more scale looking tail wheel assembly for it? The stock one looks like it is made up from wood.

Thoughts anyone?

I see the real ones everyday, I can get you some close ups if you wish. If you play in the hobby a bit you could probably make one yourself

The fun of scale is making it yourself. I would certainly take Joel up on his offer of close up images and give it a go. It will be better than anything that is available. Post your finished work for us to see and learn from when you're done.

We have used the Dubro tail wheel then dressed it up to look scale .. it takes some time but well worth it! The wheel that comes in the kit is a "SKID" to look like a wheel ...

Dr. Tim, did you use a Dubro or Robart tail wheel assembly? I know Robart has some retractable units that look like they could be modified. Do you have any pictures of the tail wheel assembly you are talking about?

Thanks

Apache Tail Wheel
Hi

I made this one up recently for a Len Mount Apache.

Once you study the pics and work out how to get the specific part to look, it flows once you get started.

You need to start with basic construction, then add the cosmetic detail as you go along.

Its only plastic rod, wire, plasticard etc, but once its primed it looks the part.

Cheers
