I just downloaded it and tried it out. It has some cool features like being able to control the camera settings without pressing the buttons on the camera however.... It has a huge delay. It is about 3second delay.

Yeah, delay sucks. But still cool features!
Can't go wrong with free app.

AerialSkyCam, what device are you using - iPhone 3, 3S, 4, 4S, 5, iPad or other? I have a 3 to 4 second delay with iPhone 5.

I am using the 4s. I am posting a great video tutorial to assist.

Have you range-tested it? What kind of range are you getting so far?

I have not completed a range test. I will be flying about 70 feet later today with GoPro attached to check performance. The GoPro Back-Pack is its own source, so I will be expecting some good results.

You may be disappointed. I got between 150 to 200 feet before the GoPro started to lose connection with my iPhone 5. I heard the iPhone 5 has a dual band 2.4/5.8GHz WiFi. It is faster but has a slightly shorter range than a single band 2.4 WiFi.

iPhone and GoPro worked great on the bench. Not to much of a delay.

High in altitude, not so much. Still happy with results, especially since the app. was free.

Did you have success at your goal of 70 feet today?

Rod,

The app. works fine at around 70 feet. I really can't complain as the app. is free and to have live video feed at no additional charge is a plus. There are some bugs that need serviced, as the delay will not suffice for FPV.

Thanks for the info!

It sounds like it is about on par with what I was expecting.

It may not replace a dedicated downlink yet but it is an interesting step in the right direction.

Has anyone here upgraded to the Protune firmware yet? I just updated today and plan to test soon.

Protune - yes, I updated the firmware with Protune. The video is better; however, you lose the ability to stream video from the GoPro to smart phone/tablet while recording. You can see the image when not recording, but you receive an incompatibility error when you hit the record button. I hope this is just a firmware/software bug they will soon fix.

The best part so far about the GoPro App is that you can now see what you are recording in almost real time without having to buy the LCD backpack - and as ASC pointed out, it's free.

I'm Android so I'll have to wait. The fact that they pushed the release out and the fact that the editing software they offer (CineForm) totally sucks, doesn't have me chomping at the bit. Hopefully it will be fixed up some by the time they offer it for Android.

Well, for free editing software I would definitely not expect very much. That's why I use Premiere Pro.......problem solved
