If the helicopter flies too light, why not just use larger batteries so that you can fly longer? It is my opinion that having an airframe which is too light is a little bit like having too much money. You can always add more weight in the form of larger batteries.
Lol, too much money. If you have that problem just spend more? Love it. But good point.

I would much rather start with a platform I can add weight to, rather than one I CAN'T remove weight from.

Gassers Rule, Nitros Drool, Electrics...uhhh...Joule?

Yes, if you have a light machine and want it to fly heavier, this would seem a simple solution. Add lead....or even smarter, add more battery.

BUT, more weight = more power. And more power and more weight = more stress.

Will the airframe handle it?

We have two things opposing here, you really have to analyse the whole picture.

This looks like just another option. Nice to have. Some will like it, and some may not. But, good to have options.

And I also preffer the feel of a massively heavy helicopter

Yeah, gimmie a 12+ lbs rig! (sarcasm)

Adding higher capacity batteries would be fine to a point, but after a certain threshold wouldn't it start affecting the CG?
Seems to be a matter of disc loading; the stretched Logo 400 I built once swinging 523's and it was way too light for my liking.
That protos 700 looks damn nice, though. Love that belt drive design.

That was my issue. I was already running a 600 stretched with 700 power. I was really afraid I was going to rip the under spec'd head apart.

In the end I just stripped it down and moved all the electronics to a logo 600SE on 5300mah 10s. It's just perfect.

if it ain't broke, break it.
