Bought a used stretched FBl one to build and have a Robird FBL on the regular Protos now. WOW, what a difference! Flies great in the wind now.
Can't wait to get the stretched one going!

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about!

Why wouldn't we still be flying it?
Stretched It's is still one of the best flying in is class. It's reasonably priced. It's affordable to fly. That said, I wish MSH offered a stretched FBL kit.

Don't they have that already, albeit as two separate kits? A stretch kit and a low FBL kit?

There are upgrade kits, but you have to research what to get. Why isn't there a P500 stretched FBL kit in 2013? Made sense in 2010, but today? My $.02

You can only stretch the PRotos to 470mm blades.

I've got one Protos non-stretch and working on a second. I'm going to attempt a stretch to run 550mm blades. I think I might use a gaui X5 flybar head to get around the thickness difference in 425mm and 550mm blade roots.

470 mm blades are your limit.
Good luck finding a long enough belt that will spline correctly and of course if you can find a tail boom long enough in that size.
and after all that your 550 blades will have too much mass for the frame to handle, it would probably wreck itself on spool up.

Now if you started with a Gaui X5 you would have success

I already have a 600mm long 17mm O.D. CF tube. Belts with the proper tooth profile and tooth spacing can be had from SDP-si.com.

If I run into problems with the frame handling the extra torque I can always strengthen it with a couple of aluminum or CF braces.

And I happen to know a guy that can possibly cut me some titanium frame sides. Hes been using them on his stretch w/475mm blades for a while now. I forget how much extra weight he mentioned, something like 100 grams more than the CF.

Since the stock motor is around 200 grams I figure 300 grams or so is about right for 550mm blades. I've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 choices.

I have been flying mine for a couple years now, great heli. But I want to show it some love and stretch it. Mine is plastic frame FBL. What would I need to buy to stretch it? Would I need CF frames as well as boom and belt? 470 blades by ? I do like Radix...

Protos 500 Stretch
I am not sure about the plastic frame as I have a carbon frame but you can buy a stretch kit.

Plastic frame does not support the counter bearing on the motor which is recommended if you stretch. If you're a sport flyer, then it might not be needed.
