After I registered, downloaded the update on the SD card, put the SD card in my DX18. Powered up the DX18. Spektrum logo came on w/the progress bar. Process took about 20 seconds and stopped. Then display screen was stuck on the logo. I couldn't get it to go to the system mode.

I charged the battery according to the manual, (light went off). Now all I can get when I power on is the logo when the SD card is installed, or blank display flashing about once per second w/SD card removed from radio. I tried removing the battery and reinstalled it. I had the normal main screen before I tried to upload the update on the DX18. Any ideas on what I should do?

Thanks in advance
Thomas

Double check that the firmware is the only thing on the SD card. Re-download the firmware if you can. I've had this happen before with corrupt firmware files. Then pop it in and hit the power again.

I've never met a helicopter I didn't like :)

The first thing I would do is clear your SD card of all files, aka format it clean. Then re-download the update file from the Spektrum site and put it back on. Put the card back in the slot and boot the radio up again. See if that reinitializes the update.

If your radio still stays stuck in a boot loop give a call over to Horizon and see if there's some sort of reset ability you can do. If not it may need a send in for service.

As you explained it, you have followed the proper sequence. Register the product on-line, then download the software onto the SD card. The name of the file on the card must be "spmtx.sax". If it is not, the firmware will not load when you power on the TX with the card inserted. You can also load the firmware from the "SD Card Menu". Just scroll through the options and select "Firmware Update". You will be able to select a file from the SD Card to load. So if your SD card file name is something like "spmtx01.sax" etc. you can select it and it will load.

Assuming of course when you registered your product you entered the serial number correctly. The serial numbers on-line and on your TX must match for the load to take place.

Did you get this fixed?
I just tried* to update from 1.00 to 1.02....same issue as you. The progress was an 1/8 first flash of back light, second flash of back light same thing, then the Spektrum logo with no progress. If i removed the SD card and powered on, the backlight would just flash.....so while it was flashing I inserted the SD card and.....it updated, the one caveat is my radio now says EU328.....oh man....any thoughts?

I have a feeling that it should say US-247. It may be in low power mode now.

Your probably for the most part not going to notice the difference in power. But if you did manage to get the update to restore to EU region mode your now stuck with that.It will have to go to the service center to get changed back to US region mode.

I see
Well, after doing this and re-reading, I see what all the different firmwares are now. I am a registered US user, I didn't realize that my profile allowed EU firmwares.....bummer. The fact that you have to send the radio in to switch back to US seems unrealistic.. I imagine that they just don't want consumers choosing the US region purely for the additional power output, hence the firmware is not available.

Yes it is kind of a PITA to have the service center do the change. My understanding is that it is a legal issue.I can see the point though.
What I would do is to just fly it until you get a winter break.
Ive flown several radios in EU mode and really havent noticed any difference in performance.
If you do send it Im pretty sure it will be back to you in a week. They will turn it around probably the same day they get it.Any lag time will be in shipping.

I took the DX18 to the LHS where it was purchased to see if they could get it fixed, no luck. They even called HH for some input, but final decision was to return it to HH.

Then the LHS asked if I wanted to trade for something. So here I stood with a radio I really didn't need, (got a 7c working fine) needed a Trex 450 for my EC-135 fuse, and wanted a boat for my pond behind my house. So I got the 450 Pro and ProBoat Stiletto in the trade. Not too shabby for a $20 raffle ticket.

Everything is temporary, good or bad.
