I'm looking into getting a new heli and I'm probably going to get an N5C. I'm also thinking of putting the YS 60 SR on it. With that much power, I'm curious of what you guys think of running 620-625mm blades on it or would it bog it down too much?

You have that extra power so my thoughts are you could try larger blades and reduce the disc loading, but I could be wrong.

Check with RYAN. He is running the Rail 606 blades with his YS60 but Im not sure how many flights he has had on the machine yet. I am sure he will have some insight for ya on this subject though.

Yeah, I've seen his thread and that's where my question came from. The YS 60 has a lot of power and so I was wondering if it could swing bigger blades like some of the electric motors guys are using now.

Canyon, TX??? That is one I didn't expect to pop up on RR! I grew up in Amarillo and went to WT in Canyon a few years.

On to the YS and bigger blades. I don't have much time on it since I got in the middle of a change over to V-Bar, then started traveling a lot. I hope to get it wrapped up and back in the air in a few days. There should be no problem with 620mm blades. It will be a trade off though. Highest agility will be 600mm, excellent tracking, grooving, autos will be 620mm (not saying it doesn't do all of those with the 606mm Rail blades now). You might reduce the disk loading, but you will be increasing drag and the blades will be a little heavier.

I personally tend to run larger blades on my machines because I don't do the smack type flying and love aerobatic autos.

We might shoot some video once I get it going and maybe some back to back flights with 600 and 620 blades.

I just moved up here from College Station. Got to fly with Nick Maxwell when he was on Curtis' team. I had been wanting to get into helis, but when I moved to College Station in 2007, no one there was flying them. So, Curtis opening up his shop was a good thing. I maidened my Blade 300X today. That thing is going to be great for learning.

I run 625 Curtis V2 blades on my N5c with a YS56. I like it. If the YS56 can handle it, I'm sure the YS60 will.

It also autos much better.

I have a vibe 50 NEX with YS 56 and Edge 623 blades and like it better than with the 603 blades.Still plenty fast on cyclic and autos much much better.I was a little leary that they would slow down the cyclic over the 603 blades since they are heavier but thats the case.I would bet with a 60 you could use even longer blades than the 623's.
