I read various threads on what is the correct mounting tape to use. Non agree with the other.

Im putting the HC in a Raptor X50 (50nitro)

Which tape should I use ?

thin, thick, chalupa layered?

3m tape at wal-Mart. Single layer. Stick and go. Electric to gasser. Simply works, controller not fussy.

The thin HC mounting pad is recommended for all applications. Thin 3M VHB mounting tape works as well.

My vote is for the thin Grey 3m tape. You can get it at Walmart. No chalupa layered. LOL!!!

Hey Santiago,
hope all is well. Good to hear that you are starting to use the unit now

Isn't that typical for our hobby/business?
Use thin one, almost no matter which. Not too soft.

Well, since the motors get better and better, we got best results using the thick tape only on gasers. And even some of those run the thin. Depends on flight style too: if you only go scale and calm, use whatever you want. But if you want crisp lock-in, go for the thin and harder one.

Thank you Joachim!, good to hear from you again.

The unit will be tested on my little nitro and likely end up on my Diabolo.
Looking foward to its 1st flight this weekend.

I will post results afterwards.

Well I finnaly flew the unit on the X50 today.
I read the manual once to get aclimated with the details, and my only change was to use a 8 ch receiver instead of the 7 I had on the X50.

This is to control the head/cyclic gyros, but there is also an option to use 7 ch and lock the cyclic gain on one point.

Anyway, It took me 35 minutes to go very slowly thru the setup wizard.

Took most defaults, set the directions etc.
For agility I chose the 3D preset and off I went.

To the field, lift off and...

It was perfectly locked in off the bench. No dicernable drift in any direction.

Fast fwd flight, flips rolls , sideways flight, all locked perfect, no hunting or wagging. Oh yeah just like the GT5... cough cough!

Had a friend who flies aggreisve 3D tried it and besides his normal complain about my cyclic rates being slow (cus that is how I fly) he liked it. He spotted a slight tail drift during backwards loops, to what is vey good for only using 50% tail gain. I turned it up and took it up myself to test on tic tocs and...

then disater,
the fuel line must have popped out off the carb or regulator, lost all headspeed and down goes the X50 like a rock. That was the end of testing.

In 2 and 1/4 flight I can tell you I love this unit as much as my VBar, and that is with no tweaks yet, and is almost perfect.

Agility can be bumped and so is the tail gain, but is plenty fast for me already. I can't wait to fix the Raptor or put it on a different heli. Helicommand ROCKS

BTW, I have not even tapped or setup rescue mode yet, but as far as I am concern the basic HC FBL capabilities are simply outstanding.

More soon.

Good to hear that all turned our well with your HC. Not that I had expected something else...

Well, a 7 channel Rx is enough anyway, as long as you do not need a seperate channel for something like lights or retract gear, etc.

You have ail, elev, coll.pitch, rudd, throttle, head gain, tail gain = 7ch.
Or do you need an 8th channel for governor?

In case you do not run different head speeds, you can also lock in the tail gain in the software and still use a 7ch.
But that is all just thinking out loud a but, as today you almost get no more 7ch Rxs

Joachim,
That is correct, I use an extra channel for the governor.

If not, then yes, 7ch would be enough such as in electric setup with a Gov mode built in the ESC.

I need to repair the X50 before I can play again, and eventualy try the Horizon and Rescue mode.

My inmediate goal is to compare its basic gyro/stabilizing ability back to back on the same helicopter to my BeastX, VBar, and even GT5.

Maybe worth a good write up.

Santiago!
Happy to see you finally setup that helicommand unit I saw you get at IRCHA!! They are awesome I love mine I got 6 of them now I'm crazy for them

Yesterday and today I was flying aerial photography with another guy. He works the camera and I fly the heli with the camera mount. Had to go high so he can get the entire campus of the school, like 300 to 400 feet the heli gets to high its hard to see how level it is. But thanks to helicommand I engage the horizon mode shortly after takeoff and I can climb all the way up as high as he wants just about. It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that the heli is quite level when I let go of the controls and all I have to do is hold stick oppposite the direction of wind to stop the drift.

Without helicommand horizon mode I'd have a harder time and would be more concerned about too much input and banking back and forth. Actually helicommand makes the heli smoother for the camera man and he can get pictures easier.

Thanks Joachim for a great product and I hope to see you in Orlando is less than 2 months time!

Raja,
Have not tried the horizon or rescue mode yet. Little flying I could do lately has been with the Diabolo who still has the VBar, but I betting that will change.

Mounted Unit

Here are some pics of my shamefully not pretty, but functional mounting of the HC3-sx son my TT X50 beater. In spite of the wire mess, it works flawless.

Is comming off tonight an being transfererd to my Diabolo

I will replace it with a Helicommand Base or Extreme model.
