You could arm the ESC in normal mode with either a flat line 0% curve or a normal curve that with point 0 at 0% and the rest of the points of you normal curve at 95%. You could then spool up in normal mode with your throttle stick or switch to idle up 1 or 2 and still have a soft start.

the problem is that the ESC seems to arm at 40% throttle flat. The ESC does not seem to be reading the throttle curve at initialization, or it would not arm at 40%. The ESC seems to be reading zero throttle from the Vbar at initialization no matter what the throttle curve in the radio is set to.

Could this have something to do with setting up without calibrating the throttle sliders in Vbar, as suggested by Mr.Mel in his latest video? I know Clint's instructions from Castle have you calibrate the throttle using the sliders in Vbar software. It's just a bit confusing at this point between Castle's word doc instructions and Mr.Mel's video differing on this point.

Ok, I redone my setup with the 4.02 left my transmitter at 100/100 same with the vbar sliders. Curves are zero flat in normal, 86 flat in idle1, 92 flat in idle2, and 40 flat in hold. My question is why do I have a 3 second delay for soft start? I've tried to move the slider up and down 10 clicks but doesn't make a difference. Not sure what to do .
Also when the soft start does come on, its nowhere near as soft as the logo in mr. mels vid.
I'm using a hk3 4035-500 scorp, ice hv 120 with gens ace 5300 30c packs.

Is your trans tab in vbar software seeing -100/+100 also?

Soft start is still controlled by the ESC near as I can tell. That parameter is NOT greyed out when you select 'external governor'. Drop it down to 2 or 3 and see if that helps.

Exactly, first few seconds is the ESC that drives the motor, so all settings are still valid for the start.

Good tips guys, i'm kinda embaressed to say but when I clicked on the external governer tab, I forgot to hit update at the bottom of the screen. And I adjusted the startup to 2 and its toooo slow, so I put it back to 5.
No delays now and my first flight with it was awsome, stock settings are really close to being perfect as far as gains. Defentally an improvement from my previous gov setup with the esc in airplane mode .

If that is the case, can you give me some possible reasons why my ESC is arming at 40% throttle with the Vbar gov. I have the Castle HV ESC in the servo port. It shouldn't arm except at zero throttle?

40% what?

In the radio? Radio throttle is a big switch, below 50 is 0% throttle out

Failsafe when powering up is 0 before tx binds possibly.

By the way how do you quote on runryder?

OK, so 40% flat throttle curve equals zero throttle signal to vBar. So I turned the rig on today in idle up at 97% throttle and it still gives the signal that it is armed. However, it did not spool up until I dropped down to zero in hold and then back up to idle up. I checked the throttle in Vbar transmitter tab and it was 101 and 101 the adjustment sliders are at 100/100. I guess that's just the way it operates on start up...Futaba 8Fg on Sbus

I am having some issues with 'rpm sensor' errors in my Vbar log. The Vbar gov seems to be working fine but I would like to get to the bottom of these consecutive rpm sensor errors.

Castle ICE HV at 4.02 firmware and using a Hobbywing sensor. I am using a Western Robotics Super BEC to power my electronics. Does this configuration require some sort of common ground. If so, could someone please explain what needs to be done? Thanks!

Got my HW sensors on the way. I have downloaded the latest firmware and software from CC. Looking at the DEMO version of the setup, most everything is the same, except where you select the "external governor/airplane/helicopter".

With my previous software, as soon as I enabled governor and told it to use the set rpm mode, the software opened a motor window that required the KV, motor pole count, and gearing for my setup.

With the new program, none of this is entered in the CC program, but the gearing is entered into the Vbar setup. However, I can find nowhere that the motor KV is ever input.

Does the Vbar governor not need motor KV? And if so, does that eliminate problems with a motor's actual KV being off from what is stamped onto the motor? Gearing and pole pair count is still required, just no KV rating.

I am looking forward to getting predictive governing at last.

Castle only uses the motor KV to compute your throttle percentages so you know how high you can go with head speed.

I suppose Vstabi assumes you can find a head speed calculator or do the math your self to find the head speed that gives you whatever percent throttle you feel gives you enough head room at max RPM (85-95% throttle). All the Vbar gov needs is pole count and gear ratio so it will know the actual rpm of the motor and then compute that to the required head speed.

FYI, I got rid of all my 'rpm sensor contains glitches' errors by isolating the sensor wire and sensor from all the other wires. I just wound the sensor wire into a 1/2 inch loop and zip tied it and the sensor away from any other wire runs.
