I was just inspecting what I'd received yesterday just to check that everything seems to be there, and I just couldn't help thinking again that Align have understood something that it seem other makes just aren't getting to grasp, the Super Combo Kit concept. You get all that is required but in a kit form (and not RTF). This is part of the reason I use Align now, just fed up of shopping all over the place for little odds and ends ahd never managing to have everything required at the time of build. Align has understood that when you buy a heli it's likely you'll want some servos, an ESC, a Gyro, some plugs and straps, etc... and it's likely you'll already have a radio system.

Whatever, I have some work upfront :

And some fun for these very sunny days (V1 700E and 3 year old 250SE) :

Yes, it's nice that they package all that stuff together for those who want it, but it would also be nice if they would just sell kits on their own like they used to for those who don't want/need all the other items.

Kits only
I agree this way if you want you can put the power you want and specifics as well. They should always come out with both for the optional person.

Well, I guess experts like to pick their bits and pieces as they like. Both options is the best of course. I've always been surprised in fact that shops don't sell "electronic combos" (ESC, Motor, FBL Mod, Servos, ...) to go with helies that don't have a combo (for example, if they'd been an electronic combo for the Century Radikal604E I think I would have looked closer at it).

Whatever, I've started to build the 250DFC and the wires are a tight fit, but it's getting there.

Align has certainly changed the market for the better of the consumer. Making it optional would mean the cost of electronics will be higher for those that chooses the combo kit. From my understanding Align has been getting better and better with their products and reliability, most of their electronics are outsourced anyway so it wouldn't be their fault. The only problem I see currently is their 3gx. Give it time they will improve that as well am sure.
Did you remember 90size barebone kits used to be in the $1200 mark not too long ago? now you can get one for about the same with all the electronics minus batteries.

I wish all helicopters came with a super-combo option. I love building, but I hate having to modify to make it work. I'm not going to spend $500 - $1000 for a helicopter only to find I have to drill holes, find/buy/make shims, dremel this, make one of these, etc. I want to know that when I assemble it that everything is going to fit and be in proper alignment, so I stick with Align.

Align has begin to tackle the RTF market with T-Rex 450 Plus kits, which comes with a Futaba OEM radio, and a built T-Rex 450 heli that is already tuned. I'm sure eventually this will propagate to other sizes, so you can literally buy a heli and fly it in front of the hobby store.

But yeah, bare kits would be nice, too!

+1 on bare bones kit. I choose all my electronics specifically for my applications.

I maiden-ed my 250DFC yesterday. The power it has is shocking <bad pun>. Roll rate is cartoonishly fast. This is with the 3GX on stock settings, all Align kit supplied parts. Only item I need to tune is how sensitive it is around center which I think I can address with some expo, running straight on the radio now. Makes my 250SE with Scorpion motor seem sluggish and slow (which it's not).

+1, that's exactly how I felt while building my Swift 620 SE. It flew great, but it was hell to build. This is exactly what makes me like Align these days, it's all in the box to get the build done (I remember my first 700E came without the connectors between motor and ESC, that really annoyed me, I see now they are in the box, but compared to the 620SE build, the 700E was a dream)
