Bottom line, there's no benefit to tuning with the gov on. If an engine is tuned properly, there would be no need to re-tune when the gov is active.
Not true, believe it or not. On a 2-stroke engine, much more so than a 4, mixture is (among other things) set by engine load. Higher and lower rotor RPM's put more and less, respectively, load on the engine and so vary the mixture at those speeds. So if you tune with the governor off at hover, say, and the RPM happens to be higher or lower than the governed one, the mixture you arrive at there will be different than when you turn on the governor. It's not that big of a difference unless you're way way off when on the throttle curve, but it's enough if you're a "tweaker" who likes to run it on the ragged edge.

So if you really want to get it spot on, always tune with the governor on and going at your desired head speeds. Then you're presenting the load you're always going to present and you can adjust the mixture correctly for that load.

As for breaking in, if you can control the governor at the transmitter, definitely do the breakin with the governor enabled. Varying the speed of the engine is important for the first few tanks and an in-flight adjustable governor is a godsend for this during breakin. Otherwise, it's just as well to do it on throttle curve....

BIG +1 unclejane ..When you try tunning with the gov off then go into idleup, the tune won't be the same..

coolgabsi,
Do yourself a BIG favor and download the SmackTalk engine video. These guys know more than anyone in this thread an they teach you everything from rebuilding these engines to getting the perfect tune..You'll notice that the gov is ON the whole time because thats the right way to tune the engine..They also show you what a lean engine sounds like when tunning it...Its 200% worth it and only cost like $3.00 bucks..Heres the link..

I personally do everything with the governor on. I also go by sound though. If a person doesn't know what a nasty angry over leaned engine sounds like they may not want to use this method. I also run a bit lower headspeed and stay a smudge on the rich side running 30 percent during a breakin. There is this perfect sound the engine makes when it is in a happy place and that is what I go by. The engine sounds the same whether it is being governed or not. Never ruined an engine and always has plenty of power.

Im not sure about the Vibe 50 but my old Trex 600N with OS 50 Hyper got around 8mins .With my new Trex 600N with YS 56SR I get around 6mins of flight time..
Different motors and helis with different fuel tanks will get different flight times..Engine tunes will also effect flight time.A richer engine will get less flight time than a close to perfect tuned engine with the exact same setup..
