Just wondering ive been flying with it just clipped in, but i notice some guys use Velcro strap as a backup.

Is it necessary? anyone know of any incidents?

Are you strapping the lipos to the trey? If so you should be OK, But a little security never hurts. I have not heard of any problems.

im strapping the batterys down , i ment where it clips (the red spring loaded clip) i see some flyers are using a Velcro that goes around the frame and the tray,

i can only assume its back for if the spring loaded clip came loose? but i havn't heard of any incidents of it coming loose anyway

Don't worry about the tray's security. As long as the packs are secured to the tray, the tray will stay in the model. It is very secure.
