So I have been flying the 130X since it came out and have tried all the "fixes" with some success.

Recently I have had a problem, 2 separate times (maybe 3 if I think back to some of the first in flight failures). What I found was happening was that the tail pitch links were coming off of the tail grip balls in flight during hard collective "pops" or left to right tail inputs. This resulted in the bottom pin on the slider breaking and of course the helicopter would piro out of control and hit the deck.

I hate trailing edge control, so between that and the 2 repeated failures, I decide to give the "grip flip" a try.

Basically I just reversed the servo in the holder, reversed the tail grips, reversed the pitch links in the slider, and bent the rod to clear the tail servo gears now facing rearward and correct the new geometry because it is off to the side slightly now.

Test flew it and was very impressed with the "feel" of the tail. It felt more responsive, precise and best of all did not fail in flight from links popping off

Give it a try

I'm going to be all over this soon to.

nate any chance of some close ups on the bend up front? Silly request yes, BUT no parts here and no chance if I eff up too much a simple pic would warm the heart to measure 3 times bend once

And did you pyhsically change the pitch links as well (large OD to small OD wise) or just insert ball into less flanged area (small OD) and not care about that?

No prob at all, I totally understand and to be honest I am probably going to get another rod and try to clean it up a little, maybe Although it is perfectly functional and does not deflect when holding the rod and cycling the servo.

I did flip the pitch links as well by pushing the tiny pins out and flipping them over and re-inserting the pins, works like a charm.

The main thing with the rod is too clear the servo gears, now facing the tail and to add a bend off to the side to correct the alignment to the guide and pitch lever ball.

Also it's a good time to quickly disassemble and clean out the servo, mine was quite dirty and had noticed it twitching a few times before just sitting there.

Another option would be swapping the servo motor leads at the pc board. That might be the route I try...

Thought about that initially but decided to go this route instead.

This was kind of a "test of theory" scenario. I like the idea of reversing the wires though now that I know it works well like this.

Swapping just the motor wires will not work as the pot would be driven in the wrong direction relative to the input. To reverse the direction of a servo you need to also reverse the end wires on the pot... very tricky on a 130x servo as it's soldered directly to the pcb. Cutting tracks and adding wires is an option but you're gonna have to be pretty handy at this type of work to pull it off.

Good call Max Headspeed.

Here is a demo video showing how well the tail is working in leading edge configuration.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been doing this since day 1 and have two 130's now, both with the mod. Wouldn't fly them any other way!

Easy to do and effective.
