I've seen a video of one person running one in a helicopter. It sounded like it was pretty strong. I'm sure the gearing will be the main hurdle.

I know a lot of guys are going to the dle's over DA due to cost and the fact that they run good and strong.

Justin Stuart, whiskey,
If either of you have any further info on the DLE 20 being used in a heli, please post!

Good little gasser but I'm not sure how it would hold up long term in a heli. In airplane applications, it is known to break the crankpin from time to time if abused. Keep the RPM in a reasonable range and it seems to hold up very well. I'm not sure that would be possible in a heli.

The Mintor 22 might be a better choice but it is too new to know how it will hold up long term.

Justin Stuart,
Oh no...I didn't mean it that way! Please any info on the DLE 20 in a helicopter.
Nitro is just getting too expensive and this looks like a nice project to tamper with!!

I think someone here missed the GT15HZ gas engine prototype....
DLE was trying to make an heli gas engine but they have had some heat issues. I'm pretty sure the crank bearings won't last more than 10 flights.
anyway the best option right now is Zenoah engine but it's heavier.
btw that heli TZ90 is too big for such engine.

Measured from the C/L of the cylinder, the Mintor is only .22" longer than the DLE. I don't think this would disqualiy the engine from being mounted in a heli. But ..... I don't believe any of these low cost, cantilever crank, rear intake engines will ever work very well in any heli given current gearing layouts. The carb would be pretty much in the dirt and the crank would probably not hold up to the stresses of heli flight. Until something else better comes along, it is still hard to knock the double crank web Zenoah or its clones.

Same basic dimensions as the DA's and DLE's...right on down the line. Getting a Mintor 38cc soon for a plank I'm finishing up.
