All I've ever wanted is a 90 sized electric heli that fly's like a 90 nitro (~2.5kw). OK, maybe I'd rather have one that has ~20% more power(~3kw), just to impress my nitro mates, lol!

You see lots of guys flying great hard 3D with 90 nitro's. Why do guys seem to need to go to 10kw electric power, with all the associated higher costs (and lower runtimes)? Some of this might be to cover up poor collective management imho.

Cheers,
TomC

I agree Tom. Most 90 nitros are around a pound lighter than 700 electrics running 2x 6s 5000 packs, which is one of the reasons they don't need to be as powerful.

2.5kw would be a nitros max engine power which you aren't using all the time. Lets say your averaging 1.5kw (2hp), if you averaged the same output on a 700E you would get 7-7.5 minutes flight time!

60% of the time, it works every time!

12S setup
Well ... I can say that running 12S setups for me on my 600 and larger machines has been a breakthrough not only in power but also longevity of my packs. Seems to be much kinder to the packs than my old trex 600e that ran a 6S config. For me its all about preference and I simply have more fun with a higher headspeed and don't mind the shorter flights. I fly my eWhiplash at 4.5 min at 2400 RPM headspeed and just grin! That said I have a great friend who still flies his old 6S TRex600 at a lower headspeed and has just as much fun! We can all be right and have fun! What a great hobby!

6s 600 setups would be just as kind to the packs if you used the equivalent sized packs as you do on 12s 600 setups ie 6600mah 6s packs. I believe if you could run 6000+ mah 6s packs and governed correctly you would have just as much power because it's all about wattage not voltage.

My 12S FBL 600E running a 2200RPM headspeed with a 90 size motor .You'll never get a 6S setup to make power like this no matter what you do.
