I had a broken teeth on my main gear so decided to change it

The new onw had a tight fit.. so I ajusted ajusted the tension from the pinion side only just slightly... a could easily pass a doubled up platic bag ( the type parts come in )between the teeths...

It wasn't fully free but it would spin around with good "push"

Less the 2 minutes in the flight.. main gear got shewed up
Changed it again but this time I fully loosened both the pinion and tail gear so I could adjust both of them.. 3-4 minutes in the flight it happend again... but this time I hit tail on the Auto's flair

what could be happening ??

Check
Bearings in the front and the back and make sure everything is riding true amd no grooves on the shafts from the bearings.

Almost every main gear has a high spot, the mesh has to be set to that high spot. If not correct it will strip gears. Keep an eye on the mesh with weather changes.
My 2 cents.

When I adjust my mesh, I pull the motor back until the main gear is just touching the pinion, then spin the main gear and adjust the motor in and out until you find the high spot, then mark in on the main and adjust mesh on the high spot.

i would check the other gears for damage
and make 100% sure everything is clean with no chucks of old main gear about to chew up a new one
and change the bearings

Main gear
Hello,

Noticed your post and I'm in agreement that the bearings should be changed. In your description, you mentioned the only thing you changed were the main gear.

I had a problem awhile ago with older kyosho helis that turned out the main gear had a defect in out out of the package. I would recommend to check your shafts for straightness. This would rule out the shafts and would only take some time. I would also get another main gear from another source to eliminate that.

All the best,

Aside from bearings and shaft and running true, I think that the doubling up of the plastic may be to much depending on how many mils thick it is.

I had best results with a single sheet of paper cut as a long strip. I feed it in and make one full turn. The waffle tracks on the paper should be uniform and not torn up. To tight and to loose both eat up gears.

If you can't do it right Don't do it!
