I've got the 450 Pro with a version 2 head. It's running the 450M motor (not the new mx) with 14T pinion. I'm looking for tighter and faster rolls (forward, backward, left, right). Currently, I'm using a 12 degree +/- for collective and 11 degrees for cyclic pitch. I'm not fast enough for "smack" yet but it seems I do like a tight roll. I've got FBL with the Align 3G V3. It's taken A LOT of testing to get the damn bird dialed in. No wonder people use "other" systems. Anyway... after getting the damn compensation(s) not to over react I'm ready to work with the mechanicals again. AND... if someone has tips for tuning the 3G V3 those are always appreciated. I don't use expo - if that matters - makes the controls too slow and weird for me. Also, the cyclic servos are Spektrum H3000's. I'm ready to admit my gear might to be up to the task. I may actually have to pop for blades that cost more than $15 - which is OK now that I rarely do "garvity research"... I've learned to actually fly a bit

11 cyclic is a LOT, you might be bogging it. What headspeed are you running.

blades do make a lot of difference also. get the headspeed up to say 3200 and run quality FBL blades it should snap right around. I haven't spent much time with the 3G but I do know that the 3GX has settings for adjusting how fast it'll flip and roll. may look at those settings and (slowly, a little at a time) add 'speed'.

I believe that cyclic pitch figure is what the 3G system will require for max stability and not what is actually used to rotate the heli.

I also believe that with the 3G you simply use the swash mix menu to adjust cyclic and collective pitch range like you would on a flybarred heli, I maybe wrong on that though?

If im wrong its either D/R's or end points to adjust rotation rate (roll/flip).

Try running 100% flat in idle up 2, this should put your head speed around 3500.

Remember when you move the cyclic stick you are telling the 3G how fast to roll/flip, NOT how much cyclic pitch to use.

60% of the time, it works every time!

Good call jschenck! less = more Dropped the cyclic to 10 and going to try 9 even. Dropped the collective about a degree also (5%) on the radio. I could hear and see the difference. Also... I did run the control rates way up - much better I'm starting to understand what Hard 3D is now - in terms of controls.
Headspeed... good question! I'm finally at a point where that matters more. I have an app on my iPhone - maybe that can give me an idea.
This was supposed to be a hobby and I'm starting to crave "NOS"... that's never good
Thanks You for the input. Off to the airfield for more tests (helps when it's right next door)

My iPhone app is measuring a bit over 3600 RPM. It's using sound from the motor and blades. Just put the iPhone on the driveway and hovered over it. Did it a few times... The app is called HeliTach.

4000 rpm would be better on a 450.

If you want crisp response that is.

I run 4000 on my 450 but that is flybarred. With fbl the heli will still flip/roll at the same rate regardless of head speed within reason. Only collective will feel crisper with higher head speed.

4000 - Isn't that what you get with the newer Align 450MX or a Scorpion? I have the older 450M...
On the Bell & Hiller numbers for the 3G, how far can I/should push them? The program is a bit cryptic and I am guessing a 600 or 700 would have bigger numbers than a 450. OR... is that backwards.
Cyclic is now at 9 and Pitch at 11 degrees. Good rolls and really nice climb outs.
I'm still having a tough time knowing when the 3G is figthing me and when it's just... Dude, you just need practice and upgrades
