New Custom E-Power benzin frame set kit
CHRISTOPHERJ HIT A HOME RUN ON THIS DESIGN!!
(copywright and patent pending)

Chris contacted me a while back regarding some custom e-power direct to swash Benzin frames that he and a bud were designing. We bounced a few ideas around and here is his design that resulted. I was in the middle of building an e-power benzin for my vario lama, when he sent me the parts, so I tore the mechs apart and retrofitted his frame set. This is why you'll notice the scale lama transmission tower and 3 blade head on these mechs. I have it set up for 5 degrees of positive pitch at center stick, -4 at bottom and +12 at the top (just in case I get in trouble)

All in all, I have to say that this old aerospace guy is impressed with the design, quality, fit and finish of this kit. It assembled with zero issues, the hole pattern was spot on, shafts installed with no interference and spun free with no bind at all.

The servos mount horizontally on either side of the mainshaft. I'll probably use a longer standoff ball on the ail locations of the swash when I get the time to order them from Joe. I also used century CNE547 servo spacers for the ail servo locations to allow enough space between them in the frames. The spacers are .200 thick and I could have gotten away with .150, which would have left me .020 between the servo cases, but I didn't have the time to machine them down. I'm also setting mine up in 3 servo ECCPM config, as the newer servos are plenty powerful.

Chris's design shortens the front vertical frame section 3 inches to allow more cockpit/cabin space for scale applications, but leaves the stock base plate dimensions and hole locations intact. This allows the mechs set to be used as intended in the stock vario scale kits without having to design additional mounting brackets. The stock benzin "X" brace was relocated to a vertical position at the front of the frameset to allow for the shorter frames.

The e-power conversion is an East Coast Scale Heli supplied unit and retains the stock benzin clutch and belt. The motor is an Xera 4035/3Y 300 KV with 8mm shaft. I'll be flying her on 12S with a Jive80HV ESC with heatsink.
Barry

EDIT: Forgot to add that these frames are .120 thick 6061T6 aluminum, so they are a bit thicker than the stock benzin frames and stronger.

AWESOME!!! "I love it when a plan comes together" Your set up is good looking. Can't wait to see it installed.

One more set to debut........Then it's time to market.

Barry thank you very much for testing these and giving feedback. I feel that if you like these (knowing how meticulous you are ) then others will like them as well once on the market.

Chris: Thanks bud The compliment is mutual. I'm just happy that you let me have a small part in this project and that I got a frame set to play with. These are just what the doctor ordered, for an e-power scaler.

Boyd: Will do. I hope to fly these mechs in pod/boom config soon. I'm trying to get 4 scalers ready for scalemasters, so I squeezed this project in. But I will post up as it comes together.

Roy: Thanks bud

That's pretty sweet. I have a Vario Bell 212 that I plan to start building next year and I think I just found the mechanics.

I have a Bell 230 that I plan on using Trex 700E mechanic, I guess I can hold-up and wait for this so I don't have to mod the fuse to fit the Align 700.

Just curious, when do you think this will be available?
