Kontronik Jive upgradable?
I looked on Kontronik web site and find it stange that you can update the KONTRONIK KOBY but they don't allow you to update the Jive line of speed controllers.

Don't you think all speed controller should be customer enable to update firmware?

That's bad, they should post the updates online and allow buyers to update their own

The problem with that is that it opens your tech up to thieves and clone masters. They were so afraid of that so they never made the Jive series that way. The new Koby and Kosmic are online updatable though Team MikadoUSA 480XXTreme, 550SX, 600SX, 700XXTreme, 800XXTreme!!

I'm fairly certain my HeliJive is upgradable via their Dr. Theopolis gadget. Although I've only used it once.

Nope. No jive is upgradeable. The program disk carried by twiki is only used to change parameters.

It must of been just the progdisc that I updated. That is a fairly useless gadget.

NO jives can be updated online.

Version is last number on the hand-written number on the label
If it says 5i9 it's a v9 etc

hi MrMel, i hv tried to use your headspeed calculator, for Trex 550E, with align 600MX motor. do u know the efficiency of the motor? 90%?

i'm using spektrum DX7se, will the recommendation tally with this tx? ie if someone is using JR or Futaba tx?

ok. my setting is 1220kv, 6s 45C, 170 main gear, 18 on pinion and jivemode 4 gov.

i gotten the result:

55% =2379
60%= 2502
63%=2577

80%=2997

i'm going to try 55% to 63%, are this settings accurate if in input to Spektrum tx? saw someone using 80% ==> im sure if your calc is accurate, my heli will fly into pieces... ?

Most likely it's also a hardware limitation. I'm not sure which microcontroller is used in the Jive, but some microcontrollers require dedicated programming devices and cannot be updated by USB alone. Some of those programmers can be quite expensive.

Wrong pinion in my opinion, I think Align's default gearing is on the high side already, and 18T/170T just silly for a 550 sized.

Agreed. My PowerJazz requires a programming card.

The Jive series requires external, proprietary hardware to upgrade (a "black box"). For guys in North America, Jives can now be updated here without having to send the controller back to Germany. Domestic motor shaft and bearing service is also now available.

Send a Jive controller for update to:

Kontronik USA
2288 Gunbarrel Road
Chattanooga, TN 37421

The cost is $20 which covers everything including return shipping and insurance.

Note that the firmware updates since V9 have pretty much been targeted at certain high power motors of non-Kontronik brand. There is no mandate to update V9 controllers running on motors outside this group and without issue.
