Align APS GYRO
I have not heard much about this thing but it looks like a good investment...

If i'm about to crash and I let go of the sticks would this thing recover my helicopter so I don't go in?
Did you mean to do that? Yeah its called a crash landing its a new trick

NO!

APS is incapable of bail-out from other than easy flying.

Neither capable of stabilization or semi-autonomous landing after any 3D display.

Align APS manual: "Do not perform violent 3D or roll/flip maneuvers 30 seconds prior to switching into APS mode, otherwise it my cause abnormal attitude detection by the APS and result in incorrect compensation and crash."

I've been testing APS for several weeks, already. I like it's GPS capability, namely return to the HOME position. I've been taking some aerial photos and videos with use of APS stabilization, too.

my T600 experience yesterday:
1. APS assisted take-off - nice and easy - OK
2. APS stabilization - the bird kept nailed on the spot - OK
3. 3GX mode: 5 minutes of light sport flying with several flips and loops
4. 30 seconds of quiet flying in Normal FM - preparing to land
5. switched into APS mode to enter APS assisted landing mode
6. T600EFL PRO rocketed with full negative collective directly to the ground

Nice GPS toy incapable of the real bail-out.
I'm curious, what experiences have others with APS bail-out capabilities.
I've switched from 3GX to APS several times during previous flights without any glitch.
APS assisted take-offs and landings are astonishing.

Helicommand SX will do this, and it is capable of recovering from aggressive 3D flight. The helicommand can be set up on a switch and also fly in various assistance modes real time.Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Yes, HC3-SX has the most advanced bail-out capabilities.
It lacks the GPS autopilot functions of APS (namely, return to the HOME position either on request or as a FailSafe function)

Align APS problems
I've had several crashes with the align APS just trying to fly it so I wouldn't think it could save you from anything. Actually I need something to save me from the APS. 8 or 9 crashes which no one can explain or solve.

I have two DJI wookong H and they are great, hundreds of flights with no issues! Dont even think about crashing with it.. Not good for anything but normal flight in atti mode but manual mode fine. Not sure what it would do if you got out of shape and went into atti mode inverted.. It isn't dogie flying in atti mode like the APS.. An really smooths out the flying and takes away the scaries.

Let a little 5 year old fly my trex 500 at the park
Like it was a Stabilized multirotor.. Really! Great learning tool.. Heli can't tip over..

DJI is coming out in the next month or so with a unit that is geared toward the 3D flyer but will also do scale smooth stabilized flight.. Just over $300.

I have absolutely no trust in the APS unit. I've got it past the vibration test but it won't accept commands. It's been operational one time and that's it. I'm not at all convinced in this unit. For it's cost it should work with no issues.Christopher J

APS unstable
Well we have had several here and can't get any of them to work. Yesterday I set up a DJI wookong M for a guy who has had two crashes with his APS while being flown by Craig Ourtney who is an Align Team Pilot. My friend was so relieved yesterday that the DJI really worked. My units are flawless. Both of us have our Align APS units back at Align. I was told yesterday that they had several flights on it and it was working properly. I was really hoping it tested bad as that would explain my 9 crashes that cost me at least 2K in parts and many sleepless nights. Hard headed I know but with $900 in a unit what do you do.

I have requested a refund or exchange for merchandise as I cannot get it to work nor can anyone I know. Two different helis, nine crashes and "expert" help. All never good for more than two flights. My last disaster broke frames, bent everything and basically wrote off the trex 600. Before this it wiped my new 500 pro. Been doing helis for 30 years and this one takes the cake.

Align stonewall on APS
Just talked to Jeff and Tim.. At Align..
According to them I am the only one with a problem and APS that doesn't work and my unit works according to them. 15 test flights. They claim..

Suggested I have a "bad bearing" or something.. Even though my Wookongs work perfect in the same aircraft. And tried 500 E and 600esp several crashes each..

Bad radio even though I have tried 12z, jr 9303 and DX-8.

Said I couldn't set up correct or that Craig couldn't either.. Even though set up exactly as instructions..

All nine crashed were just me, I don't know what I am doing and can't set up a Heli after 30 years of flying helis. Funny all three of my Wookongs work perfect.. Same person, same aircraft and same radios,

APS prolems
I certainly own a APS and so does Larry... If you got a fix for all the carnage please contact me or Craig Courtney (Align rep) because we sure can't get it to work... Not bashing just needing answers.. Not seen even one of these things work for more than a couple of flights.. Got four bad locally and no good one working.. That is like $3500 of bad electronics and thousands in crash damage.. So I guess we need a fix or refund! If you got one here in KC working please let me know..

Moonshine can be rough depending on who & what made it...

Regarding the Align APS...I'm no expert but I had one & could not get it to work. That is not to say that they Don't work as Advertised.

There are a Couple of people I know who swear by them who fly FPV Ships.

I traded mine off for a HC3-SX Helicommand System. The GPS is still new & I think I'll wait a while for other systems to make their mark.

Skookum is coming out with one.......And only time will tell.....
