That was absolutely awesome! Thanks for posting. Was there any follow up as to why they landed there in the first place?Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!

Betcha that pilot is flying a desk now for the rest of his career. They don't take kindly to mistakes like that.

I wonder if there was a load?

BTW: The C17 is designed for short field / unimproved runways - this commuter strip should have been a piece of cake.
As long as you are prepared.
Can you imagine the pilots reaction as he touches down and has the "ahh- sh*t" moment?
I bet the the hands were flying & the feet were dancing trying to get it stopped.

I wonder if it was the same crew that flew it in as who flew it out? "You got it in here, now you take it out".

The C-17 is a heavy lift aircraft designed for short, unimproved dirt runways. Awesome airplane.-----

Here is a picture using google earth. The lower left circle is Macdill AFB. This is where he was suppose to land. The circle NE of Macdill is where he landed on Davis Island.

Interesting picture. It appears both runways are on the same heading.

I wonder if the pilot was exhausted after having just flown all the way from South East Asia as the news story reports?

FWIW...thats Peter O'Knight Airport.

Get this guys...it landed on the strip almost parallel to the channel, on a 350 degree heading (less than 2600ft of paved runway)

It departed heading SSW towards Mcdill. That one is about 3500ft.

Yeah, they probably landed at an inappropriate runway for no good reason, turned the aircraft around, backed it up with reverse thrust, and departed for their original destination just to goof around and make some youtube videos.

Follow the Pilot in Command's career from here on to test your theory.

I'm willing to bet that it was no mistake .
I can guarantee that it wasn't no publicity stunt. They take that kind of stuff very serious. I am sure that the pilot and co-pilot are in hot water over an incident like this.

That doesn't surprise me. The C-17 was designed to be a mix of the C-130 and the C-5. I watched a C-5 take off once from one of our airshows and I was shocked on how fast he got off the ground. When they are light on fuel and load, they can do amazing things.Trex 700E / Trex 500 ESP - Ikon/ HD 500 - Ikon 2/ Goblin 500 Ikon 2
