Vario Swashplate question
I'm trying to use a vario 12mm 5 blade swash on a scaler with Rex700E mechs, but the outer ball link bolts on the swash are too short to clear the frame sides. They are 4.8mm ball with a 3.5mm thread, where most mfr's use a 2.5 or 3mm thread. I have checked ECSH website and they don't have what I need. Does anyone know who might stock some of these? I need 8-10mm long, 4.8mm ball with a 3.5mm thread. If not, who makes a 12mm 5 blade swash that will fit a Rex700E
Thanks, Barry

Thanks, I'll have a look at their site. I have a feeling that I'm just gonna have to machine threaded spacers. I was hoping to keep this simple, but RC scalers are never simple...

Long Balls!!!!!

Barry, I think that Hirobo might have what you need...
We just did a conversion of a stock Benzin head to FBL and I used Hirobo balls to thread into the insert in the blade grips..
Could you try one in your grip and see if that is the proper size and then I will look through my old Hirobo parts box to see what I can come up with for you...

Hi Stan, thanks for the tip. Is the hirobo post 3mm or 3.5? Vario makes the inner swash balls with a 3mm post and for some GOD unknown reason the outer balls with a 3.5mm post. I'll measure my benzin head when I get home to see what I have. Just about every other company out there has balls with 3mm posts.

Chris... LOL

SPY: OF is short for OF Helitechnik and their site is down for mods right now...

I have the exact same setup, used a 12mm vario 5 blade swash on a chaos 700 (trex clone). I ran into the same problem and solved it by getting 3.5mm balls from Joe at eastcoast vario. He has a 3.5 threaded 4.8mm ball with an 7.5mm shaft. I think the part # was 060/20 (but don't quote me on that. It's a 7.5mm threaded shaft which is spaced off the swash with a nut. It works great, and gave the proper clearance for the linkages to the swash.

Thanks Adam! I just spoke with Stan (doorman) and he also said that the balls for his 47G (PN 060/9) might work. I left Joe a message, waiting to hear back from him. I'll still need to machine a spacer for the anti rotation pin, as I'm using the Custom Heli Parts direct to swash frames for this project (rear guide is positioned farther back than the rex700 stock frames) but that's no biggie. I appreciate everyones help with this I'll post up some pics later down the road.

Adam hit the nail on the head! The 060/20 ball is perfect with a spacer, or nut to get the distance correct. Joe is sending me a couple of packs.
Thanks, Barry

Changed direction on this one. The align ball link for the 600FBL rotorhead was a better fit. So for the back location I machined a spacer with 3.5mm threads and used the vario anti-rotation pin.

Thanks guys Here's the final config with links. It's +5 at center stick. I had to use the Century medium length balls at the blade grips. The short balls were binding, due to the links hitting the blade grip. I don't know why Century even supplies these rotor heads with the short balls. It's hard to get any pitch without binding.
