I survived 2600 hours of Robinson time. Most of it dual instruction given. To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

Full scale Huey
Indiana Air a search and Rescue (IASAR) will be flying in Friday night to show their Huey that served in Vietnam. They will be giving rides to new members on Saturday. It costs $95 to join for a year. I took a ride, it's really something sitting sideways with the door open looking out straight down at the ground in a turn! The operating cost of this machine including fuel and maintenance is $2000/hr. It burns 90 gallons of jet fuel per hour. They have a rigorous maintenance schedule. You should see a guy climb on top to inspect the rotor head. He lost both legs in the service! If you aren't sure, come check it out Friday night, after seeing it, I'll bet you'll want a ride! If you want check it out now go to http://www.iasar.org.

Robinson R22/R44????
Wondering, I sometimes sit at lunch time and watch R22 training from one of the local flight schools and often thought how I would like to fly one of these, now I heard and not from anyone from the flight school that the Robinsons were one of the safest to fly and then I see alot of pilots saying other wise, so what is the deal on their safety record???

I have taken several rides in the R44 and a Twinstar but not the R22 yet, so I say if those wanting a ride to go for it, you won't regret it.

PM me if you like so we don't hijack his thread......or did I already?

Dcorsair,

one day i had just come in with the bell 427. a fellow was there with his R22. he asked if i want to take it out but only if i had recip. time. i said i have,( hiller ). i have always heard how bad the R22's are. it was a fun little machine and flew pretty good. now i am on the fence on how it would auto. i have heard you better time it perfect and get it right. but then again the bell 427 sure didn't auto like a jet ranger.

50 dollars for a 10 to 15 minute flight was a very good deal!finally got my first heli ride!

I talked to the pilot on saturday morning and he was very nice and very easy to chat with.

the huey would have been fun but i had to save some money for a trex500 i found for a great price!
