All shook up.....
So I had a rather spectacular heli/ground mishap yesterday. Heli roled end over end at least once.

I replaced:

Main Blades

Tail Blades

Main Shaft

Feathering Shaft

Tail Shaft

Fly Bar.

On spool up the heli would shake and dance around on the ground. In a hover the head is pretty solid but the tail is vibrating up and down and is not locked in very well.

Additionally, the shaft on my Scorpion HK2221-8 has a worn spot and now I can't get the pinion locked down onto the shaft.

I've contacted the folks at Inovative about a replacement shaft. Could the loose pinion cause tail vibrations? I'm sure that is why I can't get the tail locked in solidly, varying head speed to sudden decreased head speed.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Ted

You won't be able to diagnose further until you get the pinion locked down. If you still have the stock motor, throw it in and see if the problem persists.R.I.P. Roman

Could be a bent head as dkshema said. On spool up look closely at the head button to see if its running true.

Could be tight main blades?

Blades out of track?

Blades need balancing?

Did you center the flybar and screw the paddles on the same distance?

Usually when the tail is moving up and down, there is a vibration or imbalance in the head.Xxtreme 800, TDR, 700E DFC, Mini Protos, T-450 DFC, Blade 130x, mcpx, nano

Looking at the stuff you replaced, the usual suspects are covered.

But go ahead and actually BALANCE the entire tail rotor assebmbly -- grips, hub, tail rotors as a unit. It doesn't take much of an out-of-balance condition at the tail to shake the living daylights out of your heli.

Check your frame real close. I had my inner frame break by the motor mount and caused this. Way I found out is adjusting the var pitch neg/pos while on the ground and could see the shaft move out of center too much.

I do believe my head itself could be slightly bent. The head button does wobble a bit on spool up. I need to repair or replace my motor. The pinion does not lock down on the motor shaft. Im waiting to hear back from the folks at scorpion. In a hove the head looks pretty locked in. But now after the head comments i want to look at it again.I always have fun. I agree so removing the head button and looking at the hole would be more accurate but having said that my main shaft is slightly loose in the bearings so it wobbles slightly anyway! It gives you a rough idea though.60% of the time, it works every time!

If the tail is moving up and down, the mains could have been to loose.

Im waiting for a new shaft and pinion.
One way to make shaft removal easier, besides removing the set screws, is to put the assembly in the freezer for a few hours. This causes the metal to shrink a little and makes installing and removing the shaft a lot easier
