If you're using dsmx from dx8 to 18 points will differ slightly to none. Of course from dsm2 to dsmx big difference. No you can't transfer file from dx8 to 18 this dissapointed me as well.

Not that I've seen. That's the one MINOR complaint I have about the 18. I pay more attention to the vibration than I do the beeps and when you're flying like a micro or bench testing/building that beep can really pierce the ear. I would like to see volume adjustability in a later firmware update. Not that this issue would make me dislike the radio though.

Yes its definitely louder.I like it alot of the time. You can always stick a piece of tape over the speaker and quiet it down.A little piece of gyro foam quiets it down real nice for dinking around the house and working on the bench.I can still hear it but its well muted.

No definitely not just you. I wanted to be sure so I popped out my DX8 when I first got the 18 and the DX8 was almost too quiet and the 18 was like the friggin Life Alert beeping for grannys.

Just mute the tone in settings and use the vibe for alarm if you don't like the beeping

I said I would Post here when I got my DX18 back from service. Got it back today! I had to beg the HH tech to fix the screen but he did! I am most upset with the phrase "they all do it" they do not all do it. I feel bad for spektrum and HH but seriously, just own up to the problem and do a recal on the darn things.

I still don't know if its the screen or the driver, but I think it's the screen because they defiantly changed my screen.

I've never met a helicopter I didn't like :)

Firmware 1.03 issues
Updated firmware to V 1.03. Radio loaded and rebooted fine - no transmit. Will not bind - no orange led. Also no orange led in normal mode. Turn radio on - orange light for a few seconds and then goes out.
Radio worked perfectly before 1.03 upgrade. Google searched revealed this is a known issue. I am really not happy. DX8 had to be sent in a while back and now this piece of crap has to. I am seriously considering going back to Futaba. The quality control with Spektrum is obviously lacking. Never had any of these issues with my JR or Futaba radios.

Hopefully they fix it correctly and fast.

That sucks. I've kept mine on the first update (the one that killed the registration nag) specifically for that reason. If its not broken, don't fix it.

Ya that is a bummer but I always wait to update software until it is widely used and tested by the public (even though it shouldn't have to be that way).

I have the original software and the registration annoyance just stopped appearing by itself after like a hundred times lol

Hmmm very strange

I did the V1.03 during the week as well, no drama at all, even flew my Rex 450 at home that afternoon all fine, and I just got back from my club this afternoon, where I did 3 tanks on my Aurora and 3 packs on my Rex, no problems at all.

I think you should re-do the download but first delete all the old files from the card, then see how that goes.

I updated mine as well. Day after update was available. I have put in 1.02 and 1.03. No problems with either one. I have MANY flights on 1.03 now. About 25+ on a Blade 130X and about 5-6 on Henseleit TDR with DSMX sats.

Works great. Local friend done same and no issue on his at all either.

I believe most if not all the problems being the PC guys are using to do the update. This is the problematic issue of end users doing the updates. I am 99.9% CONVINCED it is the end users. I am no Spektrum defender, but when almost every single person who updates has no problems it is not the file.

PC's with Adware, Malware, Spyware and all kinds of cooties are 99% to blame. I have also never formatted the included card. I delete files but no reason to format perfectly working cards.

Was on version 1.02. Upgraded to 1.03. Update appeared to do fine. Radio rebooted and looked normal. I did not notice that the transmit light was not on. Tested with a heli that I fly regularly and had just flown with the DX18 prior to upgrade. Would not connect. Tried rebinding - transmitter just kept saying - binding. Tried on another model same thing. At that point I realized the transmit led was not coming on. Did a quick Google search - found others that have had the exact same issue. So I backed up my SD card (models) and formatted it FAT. Downloaded 1.03 again and moved it to the sd card (only file on the card). It uploaded the firmware again - same issues. I have upgraded the DX8 4 times - no issues. Upgraded the DX18 to 1.01, 1.02 - no issues. My 18 worked fine until the upgrade to 1.03. And yes I formatted the SD card to insure the card wasn't the issue either.

Just an FYI - I am a network engineer with 20+ years in the IT industry. My pcs at home are nearly perfect as in no malware, viruses, etc. Yes I have a done lot of firmware upgrades on devices including Cisco 6500 cores, switches, routers, firewalls (Checkpoint & Cisco),tons of pc bios, cameras, and lots of r/c related devices as well. So I think I have the knowledge to upgrade a Spektrum radio firmware pretty well covered. I do agree that poor pc care and performance could certainly impact a firmware upgrade, but that for sure was not case here.

Mixing question
I've ran into problems with my x9303

Does the dx18 prevent a mix from moving the servo past the channel's endpoints?

Regarding spring tension…
I loosened up the "cyclic" side gimbal 2 full turns each screw and it does feel better for fast 3d flying. I left the rudder with the stock tension.

Having a good time with my 18 so far with original software, any reason to upgrade?
