DX18
Got mine yesterday. I really like it except for stick tension. I have adjusted it to what I think is the least tension - screws all the way in without forcing them. It is better but still a lot more stiffer feel that I like. My DX8 and 11X both adjust must lighter on the sticks.
Is this something that Horizon is going to resolve? I can't image why they would make put out the radio this way.

Off the top of my head, you went the wrong way. Loosen the screws to make it have less tension.

Okay I will try it again. Thanks

Otherwise a great radio. More functionality than I will ever use.

I do wished they would get away from having to turn it off and back on to select a different model. Loved that function on 11X radio.

You don't have to turn it off and on. Press the back and clear buttons at the same time and it'll pull up the model select menu. Browse through the manual, it has that and the stick tension instructions too. I'm not positive on the stick tension since its been a couple months since I did mine, so please double check before you change it.

Cool! Maybe for once I better read the manual! Thanks.

I did read the instructions for tension adjustment. It doesn't say which way tightens/loosens. I tried both directions, it seems like clockwise make them have less tension but I can't get them anywhere close to my older radios like the DX8

You are exactly right. Man thanks for the info on the model select.

Now I really like the radio!!

One of my coworkers said yesterday "Why doesn't it have a camera like the 18MZ". My reply was if you want to pay $3K to have a 0.3mp camera - go for it. Seems kind of steep to me...............

I have mine as loose as they will go and I also think its too stiff, I like mine with a very light tension. I was going to see about lighter springs (Futaba used to sell different tensions, don't know about either manufacturers), but after flying with it a few times I got used to it and just left it alone.

Coming from my 12X with tension all the way loose, I am fine with stock tension on my DX18. I have not adjusted tension at all.

LOL, exactly. Plus the dang thing doesn't even have a "model match" feature, and that is STUPID imho

Counter-clockwise is the direction to make the sticks have less tension. I have them all the way out now without the screws coming completely out. It is better but still not like the DX8. But maybe if I fly with it a few times this way I will forget about it..........

So many want little or no stick tension but then wonder why they wont center correctly.Even out of the box most newer radios have less tension than radios of the past. And they had no adjustment.
The other school of thought is that you could excrcise your thumbs more and make them stronger. Then you wont notice the springforce as much and you effectively make the tension weaker.
And if you are going to ask the answer is No.Playing xbox and flying alot isnt exercising your thumbs any more than 12oz reps are like working out your arms.

I run my DX8 spring tension as tight as they will go. I like the 18's tension but will tighten it up more. Interesting to note the gimbles angle out ever so slightly. nice ergnomic design. the sticks are about 1/4" further apart comparted to the DX8

Springs tension on gimbals is an acquire taste;
Gym has nothing to do with it, LOL !!

Before flying helis I flew planks for few decades, I used to own Hitec and not Futaba because of spring tension on gimbals, Hitec was soft and in my perception allowed me more precision !

When I started to fly helis, question came back, Futaba or JR but spectrum came out just before I made such a decision and DX7 was my choice; I soon after bought a 12X, opened up and reduced spring tension even more to make them soft just As I did for my new DX18. I fly F3C at a good level and centering is not an issue, soft winds in Baja are 8 knots, regular days are between 10-15, windy days between 20-25; centering is every where but in the center !!!

It is my belief soft gimbals allows better precision but, As mentioned above, it is an acquire taste !!

I couldnt agree more there.I didnt mess with the tension on my 8 or 18.
The 18 does have slightly more tension out of the box than the 8 but I kind of like it that way.It is personal preference.I work with my hands alot and the feeling in my thumbs is somewhat deadened by years of welding and other beatings on my fingertips.I like having the resistance so I can feel the stick better. But thats just me.Everyone is different.

I have a question for you DX18 guys. How do you set pitch in the throttle hold/limit position. I can't seem to find a place to set pitch in while in hold. I must be overlooking something.

Opps - I found it. Throttle hold and throttle limit are 2 separate adjustments in 2 different menus. You have to enable throttle hold in the model setup menu for it to show up in the pitch menu.

Does the DX18 fit in the Spektrum SPM6708 upright transmitter case?

I asked Horizon/Spektrum that question and their rep says it does fit. However, that conflicts with their own website which says the SPM6708 has an internal height of 10 inches. The DX18 is about 11 inches tall. So, I am not buying that case until someone I know has actually seen a DX18 put into that case.

Anyone having issues getting Horizon support to respond to emails?
It seemed like their support was the best until the DX8 issues appeared.
Since then I get slow / poor responses to email and about 3 months ago I called support, waited on hold for like 15 mins then had to leave a voice mail. They finally called me back after like 3 days. I have a few receivers that the sat cable is intermittent and wanted to see if I could get some warranty replacements. They guy I spoke with was a total jerk and claimed he has never heard of the issue. I say BS as I have had more that a couple of these with the issue. I ended up just buying new cables from a reseller on Ebay. Really made me think hard about staying with Spektrum and Horizon. Hopefully their service dept will return to the way the used to be - good "customer service"! I hope I don't regret buying the DX18...........
