Schluter Cobra-Anything Special I should be aware of?
I recently purchased a Schluter Cobra, which is pretty much complete and in tact.

The transmission obviously leaked, so it will have to come apart. I plan to tear it down, go through it and, eventually, fly it (it has been about 30 years since I flew a .60 sized, fixed pitch machine).

I may cheat and put a GY 401 in it.

Anything, in particular I should know about, going forward? Anyone know what type of oil I should use in the transmission?

Anyone have a source for blades/canopy (which is cracked), tail grips (which are damaged), etc.?

Thank you all very much in advance!

I've never seen one except in pictures. It's an icon like the Cricket.

Yep, I've flown a few of them.

With a gyro the model is manageable, without, it was a handful.

The tail grips were single bearing and you can use just about any tail grips from the Miniboy, Heliboy or the original Champion grips as all were single bearing.

As far as the gearbox oil is concerned, as I recall 90wt hypoid would work. The main gear box doesn't turn all the fast.

It is easy to make a set of main blades, laminate hardwood for the leading edge and balsa for the trailing edge and using a drum sander to put the airfoil in the blades. Flatbottom Clark Y was used, then cover with Fascal Mylar.

No canopies at this time. Helioldie has new canopies listed on their website but I don't know if they are in stock or not.

I have 3 of the Schluters and one of the Kalt. (I think it is a Kalt)
I had the smaller one flying so well that I sent the fuselage off to an expert to be painted and I never saw it again.
Here is a video on one of the test flights.

Rstacy,

Thank you for posting the video. Does that machine have the "Expert" head?

The head on mine looks like a giant Helibaby head so, if I leave it stock, I expect the cyclic to be spectacularly slow (I used to fly Helibaby's and Revolutions in the late 1970's and early 1980's).

Part of me wants to leave it stock.

Part of me wants to use the engine and transmission and put a modern head on it.

Part of me wants to just leave it alone.

I paid a whopping $70.00 for it, so I think I will probably fly it, in one form or another.

That was a Raptor 50 head.
If I were to do it today I would go flybarless.
