Anyone use the Turnigy Heli-Tach ???
I never had a heli tach and would love to have my own as I fly alot by myself. That way I won't have to set low a headspeed until someone tachs my heli. Was looking around on google and seen Turnigy makes a heli only tach that gos from 1000 to 3600RPM ..I have just enough left to buy one but I wanna know if anyone here used one yet?The reviews at HK look good other than having to take the battery out due to no on/off switch but I don't trust whats on HK's site..Can anyone give some feedback on it?

Have you checked it with another tack like the MA-Xcell or Model Avionics SkyTach.Just wanna know how true it is..
If I get one i'll take the case off, drill a hold and put a tiny toggle switch on it like ones on out radios..Just cut the - or + wire and solder the switch to it..

I have never seen a model avionics sky tach that was within 200 of true rpm. The miniature aircraft and bantam units are much more trustworthy.

Having never used one, I thought they took 2 people to use one? A flyer and a man on the tach. Would it be unsafe to try to fly and operate one of these by yourself? Just askin' as I don't have anyone here to use one for me and that's why I've never considered one!!!!

You forsure need 2 people, one to fly the heli and the other to tach it.I guess you could do it yourself but I don't think I would do this. With the heli on the ground and a very tiny bit of neg pitch, you can hold the radio with one hand and tach with the other <--- Some say they do it this way but I wouldn't .

I plan on having my wife tach mine so if you have a girl friend/wife/kid,have them go out and tach it real quick..Takes about a min and your finished..

The model avionics works just fine. Atleast the one I have used matched with a couple of other tachs.

I have one (first version with battery flattening issues) and it is 100% accurate

I have double checked it by using an optical tach (aeroplane one ) and shining it through the window and it was 2000 rpm on the nose , and verified against my CGY 750 governor on my 700 heli 2060 rpm set on my TX (8fg) and it tach's correctly , So by that exercise my deduction is it is very accurate, well as accurate as the user using it , LOL

If you want to tach by yourself, and it's an electric machine, simply remove main and tail blades and spin it up on the ground, using the tack to read the rotorhead. I actually do this in the workshop to set the rpms I want for each flight mode. If you have a good ESC with a good governer you'll find it's pretty close to bang-on when you actually fly and have someone else tach. When I setup things this way then have someone tach at the flying field, it's right where I set it in the workshop.Gary Wright
