Pennstate, doesn't sound right to me
so, the school gets punished for the cover-up, it doesn't sound right to me !!!, shouldn't the accessories to the crime be the ones that get the hammer ?

Close down that school and bulldoze it into the earth as an example to other similar schools it can happen to them if they totally ignore and cover up the molesting of little kids for nothing more than the sanctity and protection of a sports program and it's leaders.

Harsh?

Dam rights it is.

Who do you suppose is going to have to pay that $60 million in fines that have been levied on them? Who do you suppose is going to have to pay the potentially hundreds of millions in law suits that are surely to descend on that school from the victims?

The tax payer.

That's harsh.

Personally I think EVERY PENNY from those lawsuits and fines should come from the athletic endowment....period. SMU got the death penalty for paying players.....this is WAY worse IMO and they should get no less........RonTeam MikadoUSA 480XXTreme, 550SX, 600SX, 700XXTreme, 800XXTreme!!

It actually is, Penn State announce that the money for the fines is coming from the football money.

The real problem is that all those that knew about the abuse and hid it are no longer working at the university, or are deceased - right? If anybody left at the school knew of the abuse, fire them and file suit. If any former student knew, include them as well. But to punish the other thousands of completely innocent students and faculty at the university seems a bit heavy-handed to me. Punish those involved to the fullest extent allowable, but dont punish aspiring athletes, coaches, students, etc that had no idea about these doings.

I feel sorry for all the victims in this mess, but adding more innocent victims wont change the past. Hurt those that deserve punishment, spare the rest of the school who no doubt were never involved in any way... just my two cents.

You have some good and valid points.

But, what about the tax payers that will be liable for all those lawsuits and fines filed by the innocent victims. The athletic department does not have the assets to support the litigation that could easily go on for years and very obviously be in the multi millions of dollars to end up be taken form the tax payer.

Sure, universities like these take private donations. But, what private donator is going to fund this one? It will end up being the ta payer who pays.

I say bullsh#t. Close down that frickin school, sell off its assets to pay liabilities, and bull doze that thing to the ground as an example to others. The damage to innocent little kids has been knowingly and willingly done, covered up and seemingly encouraged to continue. The damage to the victims is bad enough. The potential costs to tax payers would unwarranted and should not be allowed to happen.
