N5 big block possible??
Hi all,

Just curious if anyone has tried fitting a 70, or even a 90 engine in to a N5, a little curious to see if it is a viable option?

Cheers,
Ryan.

Isn't that what we're heading towards with motors anyway? This year its the YS60...it won't be long before our 600 size machines turn into more compact 90's....R.I.P. Roman

Hi adamsz06,
Yes I do believe it is where we are heading, but, going back some years I still have some OS70's etc sitting here, which could be put to some good use, and seeing the N5 has good quality robust mechanics it maybe a good option for me.

Hi steffgiguere,
Thanks for the idea, I should have gone there to begin with, thank you.

90 N5
Wonder if you shimmed the motor mounts away from the frame a bit? Bet that would provide a larger mounting area but then the clutch lining up would be an issue maybe. And structural rigidity might become a concern. Anyway, would be neat to see!! I have to admit I fly with guys that all have 55's in their 600's and at the end of the day you get a little tired of the winey engine noise that 50's make...something bout those 90's!! lol

It's more of a gear selection issue I believe, it's been discussed before. But today's 55's are making the same power as 70's, so it's gotta be a 90 at least

After doing a trex 600 to .91 conversion myself if would be very easy to do on a N5C as well... the only problem is getting a larger pinion... I searched and searched and could not find one that would work for the N5C... and you wont get a reply from Synergy on the subject.. I dont think Matt wants people doing the conversion.... if anyone can find me a pinion... I will do a step by step how to...

I've never looked at one up close, but I wonder if the pinion off the N9 could be adapted? Clutch assembly as well if needed. The N5C has to carry more fuel....R.I.P. Roman

Well with stock gearing it would put a .91 around 1950 rpm, if I used 696 blades, and E7 Boom it just might work...

TBird,

Please do a build thread. With the demise of the N9, this could be the answer to keeping a 91 synergy alive.
I for one am very tempted to try this out.

I would be curious to see your flight times with a .91. I barely get 6 minutes with a 55 on mine.

Flight times would probly be in the 5 minute range maybe more with a header tank. I just happen to have an extra os .91 hz-r hmmmmm, if I did do it I would probly run an e7 boom, and 696 blades and see what happens. It would probly be the lightest 700 nitro out there...

This is something I would be interested in myself. I have a spare YS91ST here, and an empty N5 airframe because I stripped it all out for my N5c. Now you have got me thinking!!
